  • Patent number: 5388866
Abstract: A high pressure fitting is provided .which comprises an adjustment nut with nipples extending therefrom in axial extension of one another. The nipples are provided with exterior threads and with conically shaped ends which are respectively engaged by ferrules. Each of these ferrules is engaged by a coupling member having an interior thread which is in engagement with the threads provided on the associated nipple. Adjustment of the threads operates to pull the ferrules against the associated nipples. On each nipple is mounted a frusto-conical ramp adjacent which is provided a cylindrical arrangement of spaced fingers or a thin wall cylinder having protruding tips directed radially inwards. These fingers or the cylinder with their respective tips ride up the ramps and are loosely accommodated in their respectively associated nipples to prevent accidental detachment thereof. The fingers pressing against the ramps serve to vector forces to remove play from between the inter-engaged threads.

  • Patent number: 5387017
Abstract: A coupling for attachment to the end portion of a pipe having a circumferential shoulder in such end portion includes a coupling body which receives the end portion of the pipe therein and a set of jaw members which, after the end portion of the pipe is received in the coupling body, move to a closed position to engage the shoulder so that the coupling is locked onto the end of the pipe and the pipe cannot be pulled from the coupling because the jaw members acting against the shoulder prevent such movement. The coupling can be provided with sets of jaw members at each end to couple together two pipes with end portion shoulders or have jaw members at one end and threads, flanges, or other types of connectors at the other end. Valves or other fittings may be incorporated into the coupling between the ends of pipes being coupled.

  • Patent number: 5387014
Abstract: A motor vehicle air conditioning installation includes a pair of parallel tubes with annular beads at their free ends, for assembly to a component of the fluid circuit of the installation, and a clamping plate or strut connecting the two tubes together. The strut is an elongated plate having two through apertures. One of these is a notch open at one end of the plate. Each aperture has a substantially semicircular region matching the circumference of the associated tubular element fitting within it. The second aperture is surrounded by the material of the plate over its whole periphery, and includes a widened region through which the associated bead of the corresponding tubular element can pass, this widened region being joined directly to the substantially semicircular region. The strut cannot be separated from the tubes without resilient deformation of the latter, which avoids the danger of its becoming lost during disassembly.

Abstract: A modular connector (20) for separably joining two modular pressure fluid components (21, 22) such as filters, regulators, lubricators, dryers, drains, manifolds, unions, and the like. The connector (20) utilizes a modular arrangement of a joining block (24) and mounting slides (25) on each pressure fluid component (21, 22), with tracks or guide rails (44) on the block (24) engagable in grooves (48) on the mounting slides (25) to provide a slide fit between the connector (20) and the components (21, 22) with mating wedge or cam elements providing a tight sealing engagement therebetween. The components can be positioned from either side, left or right-handed, of the connector. Adjoining sealing surfaces (26, 28) on the components and connector are clamped tightly together in sealed relation by the wedge or cam members, and O-ring seals (29) are utilized to provide a fluid tight seal between the sealing surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5383496
Abstract: A pipe coupling wherein the axial split is offset from the location wherein the coupling is closed. The offset increases the resistance of the pipe coupling to lifting forces exerted by pressurized fluid in pipes or pipelines. In addition, an extension member and a reinforcing member on the opposite sides of the closure device increase the section modulus of the pipe coupling and further increase the resistance of the pipe coupling to lifting forces.

  • Patent number: 5378025
Abstract: A release member for a quick-type connector includes an outer sleeve concentrically disposed about an inner sleeve and integrally joined to the inner sleeve at one end. A plurality of circumferentially spaced fingers are formed on the inner sleeve and extend axially from an opposite end of the inner sleeve. Radially outward extending projections are formed on the inner sleeve and engage an inward extending flange on a female connector part to retain the release member in the open end of a bore in the female connector part, with the outer sleeve slidably disposed over the tubular end portion of the female connector part. Engaging surfaces formed between the fingers on the inner sleeve engage deflectable legs on a retainer mounted in the bore of the female connector part when the release member is forcibly urged into the bore in the female connector part to deflect the legs radially outward so as to permit separation of a radially expanded flange on a male conduit from the female connector part.

  • Patent number: 5372389
Abstract: The nozzle swivel joint includes two couplings which are joined together at mutually flat interface surfaces. Each coupling has an axial flow passage, and the two couplings are held together in mutually rotatable position by a manifold with a threaded end; the manifold having inlet and outlet ports respectively aligned to the flow passages in the couplings. The manifold is sealably affixed to one of the couplings, with a gasket forming a seal about the threadable manifold. An O-ring is compressed between the respective flat interface surfaces to provide a limited friction seal for restricting relative rotation between the couplings, while at the same time permitting rotation to occur with a limited amount of force.

  • Patent number: 5366260
Abstract: The present invention is a unitary pipe coupler having an internally mounted hollow tube stiffener which extends through the coupler. The stiffener serves as a guide over which ends of the pipes slide as the pipes are inserted into the coupler and provides communication within the coupler between the two pipes. As the pipes are inserted into the coupler, each pipe passes consecutively through an opening provided in the coupler, an O-ring, a plurality of rigid backward oriented gripper serrations provided on a gripper, a plurality of backward oriented flexible sealing serrations provided on a front boot seal, until the end of each pipe rests against a flexible boot seal which abuts a hub for mounting the stiffener to the coupler. The gripper serrations prevent the pipes from being pulled or pushed outwardly away from the coupler.
