  • Patent number: 7136189
Abstract: A method is provided for rendering a color image with a plurality of separations with a multi-level successive-filling halftoning process using a single screen for a plurality of separations. For a separation to be processed, first, from the possible multiple levels for the separation, the set of levels that would be used and the number of dots corresponding to the different levels are decided. These decisions are based on the input level for the separation and input levels for the prior process separations. The location of the dots to be printed for the different levels for the separation is then decided by using the halftone screen, while simultaneously taking into account the placement of printed dots for the prior separations. The selection is done so as to best disperse dots and minimize overlap.

  • Patent number: 7133167
Abstract: An image reader of the present invention comprises a fluctuation detector that can be connected to the external equipment by means of an image data input-output section, and can subject image data, continuous in a first direction and outputted as image information on a test chart is photoelectrically converted by means of a CCD sensor when a mirror set or the test chart is moved in the first direction, to Fourier conversion, thereby obtaining the frequency of a fluctuation of the obtained image data and a maximum value of the amplitude thereof. If the obtained maximum value of the fluctuation amplitude is greater than a given value, the fluctuation detector is used to compare the frequency of the fluctuation and the natural frequency of a drive motor for generating driving force for moving the mirror set or the image. If the fluctuation frequency and the natural frequency are not equal, the value of current supplied to the drive motor is increased.

  • Patent number: 7126718
Abstract: A system for adjusting the representation of a device's color gamut in color appearance space, comprising performing forward mapping of sample colors from a device-dependent space to a device-independent color appearance space to obtain forward-mapped device-independent values, obtaining mismatch values for perceived device-neutrals, each mismatch value being a difference between a forward mapped value for the device-neutral and a neutral axis of the color appearance space, and adjusting each forward-mapped device-independent value by utilizing the obtained mismatch value for each corresponding lightness level of device-neutrals in order to obtain an adjusted forward mapping. The adjusting of each forward-mapped device-independent value may be a full adjustment of each value, or a partial adjustment that is performed in either a linear or non-linear manner and that may be based on chroma, lightness, or both.

  • Patent number: 7099040
Abstract: A method for serving an image from a server to a client, e.g., a computer having a browser or other graphics viewing engine. The user of the client first specifies a set of one or more bitmap characteristics for an image transfer, with at least one of the bitmap characteristics including a number of bits per pixel. Preferably, this specification is accomplished using an applet or other piece of code that is downloaded to the client from the server. Later, when the server receives a client request that includes data identifying a specified bitmap characteristic, a server processing routine (e.g., a servlet) generates a version of the image that conforms to the specified bitmap characteristic. This version is then delivered back to the client in response to the original request. In this way, the user of the client machine can control the particular characteristics of the image files that are delivered to his or her machine.

  • Patent number: 7085023
Abstract: There is provided such a shape of a light-guiding body that can guide light emitted from a LED while reflecting such light under conditions which satisfy total reflection as much as possible within the light-guiding body, to thereby improve the light intensity on the surface of a document in the shorter axial direction (i.e., the sub-scanning direction), and also, the light-guiding body has such an optimized shape of a light-incoming face that makes it possible to control the angle of light fluxes in the longer axial direction (i.e., the main scanning direction) to thereby illuminate the surface of the document with light having an uniform intensity distribution. Further, a reflecting member is provided at a position opposite the light outgoing face of the light-guiding body so as to improve the efficiency of illuminating an objective image-reading region on the surface of the document.

  • Patent number: 7075681
Abstract: A system and method for reducing the volume of data necessary to represent an image by utilizing tiling and masking techniques is disclosed. Initially, an image described by raster content having an original number of bits per pixel is provided. The image is divided into tiles such that each of the tiles represents a portion of the image. Then, for each of the tiles, the following steps are performed: (a) the colors in the tile are identified; (b) the required number of masks are compared to a threshold number of masks to determine if data reduction by using masks is worthwhile; (c) if the required number of masks is less than the threshold number of masks, a representation of the tile is generated using fills and/or masks; and (d) if the required number of masks is greater than or equal to the maximum number of masks, a representation for the tile using the original format and number of bits per pixel or a smaller index is generated.
