  • Patent number: 5894044
Abstract: A method of making a honeycomb structure includes the step of intermittently slitting a sheet of material such that longitudinal slits are aligned in alternating staggered rows. Each staggered row has a lateral centerline spaced substantially uniformly from adjacent row centerlines. The longitudinal slits in each staggered row have substantially uniform lateral spaces between each slit. Another step is applying continuous stripes of adhesive laterally across a top side and a bottom side of the sheet such that each stripe is spaced apart longitudinally and centered on a row of slits. The stripes alternate between the top side and the bottom side. Still another step includes pleating the sheet such that pleats run longitudinally. Each pleat has a top fold and a bottom fold aligned with a longitudinal slit. Yet another step involves gathering the pleats together in a closed stack and compressing the stack to cause the stripes of adhesive to bond the pleats together at adhesive contact points.

  • Patent number: 5891534
Abstract: Disclosed are improved components for a base rail system for the protection of fixtures such as display shelves, booths, and grocery store refrigeration cabinets. A protruding rotatable corner member rotatably engages objects that collide with the corner, reducing abrasion of the corner and of the object. In addition, the rotatable corner member redirects objects so as to reduce collision forces on the fixture protection system. Socket adapters closely receive a segmented, spheroidal rotatable member and rotatably couple the member to base rail protection members. A base rail protection member includes a single piece arcuate resilient sheath disposed over an arcuate channel member so as to form a cushioning gap therebetween for absorbing and dispersing collision forces. The arcuate sheath includes retaining grooves disposed along the length thereof for engaging tabs disposed along the arcuate channel member.

  • Patent number: 5888610
Abstract: A method for producing a sandwich-type panel with structural and acoustic properties and formed of a core with an open cellular structure. The method includes the steps of forming first and second skins by superimposing and hot-pressing at least two fabric plies of mineral or synthetic fibers impregnated with a thermoplastic resin, of forming in one of the skins perforations with a diameter of between about 0.5 and 1.5 mm, with a vacuum proportion of empty spaces on the surface of the skin of between about 10 and 25%, of after preparation of the skins applying on one face of the skins an epoxy adhesive coating, of forming a sandwich including the open cellular structure with the two skins on its opposing faces, and then of hot-pressing the sandwich at an appropriate temperature so as to polymerize the adhesive. During hot-pressing the pressure and duration are set so as to avoid any full or partial obstruction of the perforations of the perforated skin.

  • Patent number: 5888595
Abstract: A decorative article for displaying themes that may be used in decorating, educating, or advertising. The decorative article comprises a base, one or more frontal portions, and one or more flexible branch elements connecting each of the frontal portions to the base. The branch elements suspend the frontal elements in front of the base. Air current or other motion attributed to external forces can induce the frontal elements into a random bouncing motion on the branch elements. The base and the frontal portions have predetermined shapes and are imprinted with predetermined graphical designs. The base, frontal portions and branch elements are created from thin, flexible and preferably transparent plastic material which make the graphical designs viewable from multiple directions.

  • Patent number: 5882766
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for attachment to the window frame running around a window opening on a vehicle door comprises a sealing strip made of extruded plastics or rubber material and incorporating metal reinforcemet. The strip fits over a flange forming part of the window frame. The strip has a locking protrusion made of flexible material having a shoulder adjacent a hollow interior chamber. The latter enables the shoulder to flex and pivot and to pass over a re-entrant rigid lip at the mouth of a rigid channel in the frame and to lock behind this lip. The strip can thus be fitted and removed without the use of a tool. The strip also defines a channel for receiving the window glass.

  • Patent number: 5876831
Abstract: A thermally conductive structure for transferring heat energy transversely, relative to a heat source interconnected to the structure, is disclosed. The structure generally includes a plurality of non-metallic thermal plugs insertable into a corresponding plurality of cells of a honeycomb core. Each of the thermal plugs are primarily axially thermally conductive. The honeycomb core is sandwiched between first and second panels, the heat source being mounted on the first panel. As such, the structure with high through the thickness thermal conductivity (e.g., greater than 200 W/m .degree.K) and conductance primarily transversely transfers heat energy from the heat source to the second panel via the plurality of thermal plugs.

  • Patent number: 5874153
Abstract: A zeolite-coatable metallic foil, in particular in the form of a honeycomb body, is formed of a steel containing chromium and/or aluminum and having a surface. An oxide layer covers the surface. A ceramic washcoat on the oxide layer acts as a bonding layer for receiving a zeolite layer. A process for producing a metallic foil coated with zeolite, in particular in the form of a honeycomb body, includes oxidizing a steel foil containing chromium and/or aluminum to form a finely grained aluminum oxide layer on a surface. A ceramic washcoat acting as a bonding layer is applied to the oxide layer. A zeolite layer is applied to the ceramic bonding layer.
