    Abstract: A pressure relief valve for a hydraulic system for controlling a belt-driven conical-pulley transmission. The valve includes an orifice having an opening to admit a stream of a hydraulic medium, and a valve cone to block the opening in the orifice. A spring is carried by the valve cone to apply a restoring force to press the valve cone against the orifice in sealing contact with the opening. A hydraulic plate having a valve bore is provided to receive and guide the valve cone and the spring. A lateral force support is carried by the valve cone to align the axis of the valve cone relative to the axis of the orifice opening.

    Abstract: A tensioner includes a base, a tension arrangement rotatable at the base, a damping member being rotated in a loading direction by the tension arrangement, and an elastic member biasing against the damping member. The position of the damping member depends by the layout geometry of the specific application and is directly in opposition to the hub load. The reaction force of the cylindrical surface of the base on the damping member is very near to the plan of the external forces represented by the hub load to minimize the deflection of the shaft. The tension arrangement is rotated to push the damping member for generating a first positive tension between the damping member and the base, and to expand the elastic member radially for generating a second positive tension between the elastic member and the damping member, so as to enhance a damping force of the tensioner.

    Abstract: A key pulley segment in a synchronized, segmentally interchanging pulley transmission system is either first or last in a pulley segment set to engage an endless member. The first or last key segment teeth to engage or disengage, respectively, are shortened or completely trimmed, and the adjacent pulley segment to the key segment is elongated such that the inward portion of the tooth profile extends toward the key segment. Shortened tooth or teeth and an elongated adjacent segment together allow for many pulley segments to be designed as key segments. Completely trimmed teeth may be engineered to create a supporting surface for the endless member on the key segment. The elongated adjacent segment may have an extending portion which slidably mates with the supporting surface of the key segment, thereby receiving radial support therefrom.
