Abstract: The method and apparatus for the oxidation of naphthalene to phthalic anhydride in multi-tube reactors having fixed bed catalysts therein are improved by removing deposits from the catalysts. These deposits are removed by impulsively decompressing the reactor in the direction of the inlet of the multi-tube reactor.
