Patent number: 3948479Abstract: A valve particularly adapted for use in obtaining a constant fluid flow output from a variable high pressure fluid input. The valve body includes a fluid passage extending therethrough having a valve seat intermediate the ends thereof. A fluid inlet communicates with the end of the passage on the upstream side of the seat and a fluid outlet communicates with the passage on the downstream side of the seat. An elongated actuating stem is closely received in the passage and includes a plurality of spaced radially extending fins disposed along a portion of its length. Each fin then includes a pair of oppositely disposed orifices to facilitate fluid flow therethrough and the fins are selectively positionable on the stem to provide variable flow characteristics through the valve. The rate of fluid flow through the valve may be easily regulated by adjusting the degree of insertion of the stem within the passage so as to yield the desired constant output flow rate.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1974Date of Patent: April 6, 1976Assignee: Sno-Trik CompanyInventors: Alfred Bedo, Edward Beck

Patent number: 3946685Abstract: A hydrodynamically balanced quiet control valve for a submarine (underwater ehicle) hovering system. The valve has a cylindrical valve element within a four-port valve housing. The interior of the valve element is divided into three chambers by a pair of parallel partitions extending lengthwise of the element and equally spaced from the element axis. Apertures in the cylindrical wall of the element are arranged, in cooperation with the partitions, to produce substantially constant total flow resistance through the valve when installed in the system, regardless of the angular rotation of the cylindrical valve element. A hover computer controls the angular position of the element in response to sensed pressure variations from the pressure at a preselected hovering depth.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1974Date of Patent: March 30, 1976Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Barry O. Patent number: 3945565Abstract: A conduit with inlet and discharge ends respectively for receiving a supply of air under pressure and for delivering the air at a lower pressure has a cylindrical configuration and an eliptical butterfly type damper is disposed diagonally therein. The damper turns about an axis intermediate its diagonally opposite ends and the oncoming air stream thus impinges on the upstream face of the damper on opposite sides of the axis and creates a differential force, the said differential force tending to close the damper and constituting a first closing force. A second closing force for the damper is provided by a small bellows supplied with air through a small conduit from the downstream side of an orifice member disposed in the main conduit upstream of the damper. A second and substantially larger bellows serves to open the damper and a small conduit connects the said bellows with a controller supplied with air from an upstream side of the orifice member in the main conduit.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1975Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Assignee: Anemostat Products Division Dynamics Corporation of AmericaInventors: John F. Patent number: 3945605Abstract: A multiple plate valve is provided which is designed to continue to function to close off a conduit even after portions of the valve have worn. The valve includes a body portion in the form of a pair of outer cover members each having an aperture therein, at least a pair of closure members, such as plates, operatively retained between said outer cover members and adapted to be moved between open and closed positions and to cooperate with each other to close off the apertures in the outer cover members, and means for repositioning the closure members with respect to each other and the apertures, as the closure members wear out, so that the closure members will continue to cooperate with each other to close off the apertures.Such a valve is particularly useful where it is employed in a conduit used for delivering abrasives or caustic chemicals which tend to wear out the closure members of the valve.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1975Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Inventor: Henry Fleischer

Patent number: 3943958Abstract: A valved cap is provided for the top of a riser pipe connected to a flow line under pressure such as may be found in irrigation systems and is normally closed when the system is in operation. The valve automatically opens when the system is stopped to admit air for preventing a vacuum build up and closes under pressure when the system is started up during which time air in the riser pipe is permitted to escape to avoid a pressure build up while the valve is closing. An apertured fitting connected to the valve stem within the riser pipe connects to a flexible air vent hose extending down the riser pipe and into the main flow line in the direction of the flow and air trapped in the riser pipe after the valve is closed is siphoned through the hose into the main flow line to be expelled into the atmosphere at an outlet in the main line.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1974Date of Patent: March 16, 1976Inventor: Roy Forrest Davis, Jr.

Patent number: 3941350Abstract: Quieting means for a fluid flow control device is shown in connection with a typical pressure relief type valve. The quieting means consists of a stack of washer-like members or disks which cooperate to define a large number of finely-divided flow paths across the stack of disks. To provide a configuration which is very economical of space, the disks are arranged such that the flow path turns back and forth through different planes. Groups of flow paths are defined by a number of groups of two or three perforated disks confined between two imperforate disks. In one embodiment, two perforated disks having patterns of small vortical flow directors are positioned on opposite sides of a similar disk having a pattern of small orifices.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1974Date of Patent: March 2, 1976Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Matthew L.
