Abstract: A blank capable of rapidly setting-up into a self-supporting container, having a polygonal base panel with n sides, wherein n is at least 6, and at least n+2 side panels. The side panels are divided into a first contiguous group and a second contiguous group, with each of the side panels being separated from the contiguous side panel by a fold line. Locking tabs are used to lock the container in the set up position. Due to the multi-sided structure an ease of assembly as well as a ridigity not found in the prior art is provided.

Abstract: A divider blank comprising four hinged strips serially arranged with their longitudinal axes parallel, said strips being an end strip, two middle strips and an end strip; divider flaps cut from and hingedly connected to each of the strips; the ends of the divider flaps of the end strips being adhesively connectable to the ends of the divider flaps of their respective hinged middle strip when they are caused to be moved to overlying relation whereby to form a divider between their respective strips; the outer strips being adhesively connectable to form a composite strip upon first folding the end strips over their respective adjacent strips and then folding the outside strips to overlie each other; the hinged connection between the middle strips being severable when they are caused to overlie each other as aforesaid; said divider panels when adhesively connected as aforesaid to form dividers interconnecting said composite strip and said middle strips and being adapted to space the strips as the divider panels

Abstract: An inwardly offset surface of the cover of a carton is cut in a plane transverse to the top of the cover. A protrusion on the bottom surface of a complementary recess in the latch flap extends through the hole to latch the carton with the protrusion being within the cover recess to prevent accidental opening of the carton. The mold for producing the carton cuts the hole while thermoforming by relative movement between a male key mounted in the male mold member and female key mounted in the female mold member. Both keys have flat surfaces transverse to the closing motion of the molds. These flat surfaces are biased into engagement one with the other so that the plastic is cut in a shearing action.

Abstract: An article wrapper which is especially adapted for use in packaging articles which are of cube shape includes top, bottom and side walls foldably joined together so as to form a tubular structure, one wall such as the bottom wall comprising overlapping lap panels, an anchoring aperture formed in the inner one of said lap panels, a securing slit formed in general coincidence with the fold line between said inner lap panel and the associated side wall, and a locking tab having a body portion, a heel portion, and a toe portion and being struck from the outer one of said lap panels and being folded through an angle of approximately 180.degree. and into face contacting relation with the part of the outer lap panel which is remote from the associated side wall and so as to cause the heel portion to enter the anchoring aperture and to cause the toe portion to enter the securing slit thereby to interlock the lap panels in face contacting relation with each other.

Abstract: A corner holder for use with a box of corrugated cardboard having a pair of slots in sidewalls thereof adjacent to a corner of the box, comprises a pair of inserts each including a tongue-shaped base plate and a U-shaped flange on the base plate, and a flexible connector web joined between the inserts. The base plate and the flange jointly define a channel or groove extending along opposite side edges and an arcuate bottom edge of the base plate. When the corner holder is installed on the box, the inserts are inserted in the slots, respectively, with edges of the sidewalls which define the slots being fitted in the grooves in the inserts. The corner of the box is thus clamped and reinforced by the corner holder. The box can readily be folded into a collapsed form simply by removing the inserts out of the slots.

Abstract: A structure for use in assembly of a non-square center special slotted container is constructed from a single piece, five panel blank having a full end panel, two side panels, and two partial end panels, each having associated flaps, which is folded to produce overlapping of the partial end panels. The end flaps extending from the partial end panels, and the correspondingly disposed flaps extending from the full end panel each are of a length substantially equal to one-half the length of the front and rear side panels. The full and partial end flaps are of equal length on each side of the blank so that contact of the outer edges of the folded blank by platens or other means in the squaring station of a folder-gluer machine properly aligns the blank and consistently produces properly squared and sealed folded blanks.

Abstract: In a blank sheet of a case for packaging a video tape cassette having main panels 1, 2, a black panel 3, and side panels 4, 5, 14, 15, side flaps 11, 12 are projectingly provided from the end edges of the side panels 4, 5 belonging to one main panel 1 toward the side panels 14, 15 belonging to the other main panel 2, and when, at the time of case forming, these side flaps 11, 12 are placed into the inner side of the back panel 3, and hot air is supplied into wedge-shaped spaces W between the opposed side flaps, 4, 14 and 5, 15 thereby to fusion bond the opposed side flaps, the hot air is prevented from reaching the cassette inserted beforehand into the case.

Abstract: A cover assembly including a frame and a lid for placement over the open top of a container. The frame has a circumferential side which fits snugly around the sides of the open container and a relatively short inwardly extending lip along its upper edge to support the frame on the rim of the container. The lip has an inner edge defining an access opening. A portion of the inner edge is set back away from the inside surface of the container so the lip at such portion does not interfere with removal of the contents. A lid, supported by a recessed lid sealing surface on the lip, covers the access opening. The container is typically a rectangular cardboard box having flaps folded up and back down along the sides of the box. The box typically contains a product in a plastic bag conforming to the interior of the box. The bag is sufficiently tall so that the bag opening can be drawn out and cover the downwardly folded flaps.

Abstract: In a blank for folding into a parallelepipedal package that is intended for liquids, the blank having an area that is to be folded into a double-M closure for a gable-shape top having inwardly folded opposite triangular sections and a middle fold line, the improvement which comprises providing each of said opposite triangular sections with a slit that slants from the upper edge down to or slightly beyond the middle fold line, whereby the folded package has an improved seal. When the cross-section is square, the slits should be parallel so that the folded areas dogleg and overlap.

Abstract: A peelable, sealable closure arrangement for a container body and lid adapted to insure integrity of seal when internal pressure increases within the container. The closure arrangement includes a container lid rim having a radially inward projecting lip with a sharp pointed peripheral edge capable of biting into the container body rim to insure a hermetic seal at all times between a sealable membrane and the container rim.

Abstract: A multiple compartment suitcase defining an interior region has parallel rectangular panels, an interior side wall defined by coextensive spaced apart sides normal to the panels, a rectangular base parallel to a rectangular top and normal to the base. Intermediate the panels, a pad dividing the interior space into two compartments and a pad encompassing skirt is joined to the interior side walls. The skirt has a width greater than the normal distance from the pad extremities to the side wall. The pad is movable from a first position providing approximately similar volume compartments, to a second position in which the pad is substantially flush with the one of the panels to enable nesting of similar, yet smaller suitcases therein.

Abstract: A new and improved beverage package and production blank for a beverage package having improved locking features. The novel locking feature comprises a combination of the use of primary male adjustable locking portions in combination with secondary female punch-style locking portions formed in the manner herein described. A variation of the novel combination may utilize tertiary punch-style female locking portions also formed on the margins of the locking structure.

Abstract: The storage file is of the temporary type, made up of a box stamping comprising initially a flat sheet such as cardboard provided with appropriate fold lines. The fold lines define a top, left and right sides, a bottom and front and rear ends for folding these components into a box shape. A tray receivable in the box is also formed from a stamping initially starting with a flat sheet which again may be cardboard and having fold lines to define a floor and left and right sides and front and rear ends for the tray. These components again are folded into the tray structure. The tray may optionally be provided with a divider element again formed from a flat sheet appropriately folded to be received in the tray. The storage box is ideally suited for slides and tissue blocks used in medical work. The initial flat configuration of the sheets for making up the box permits compact storage and easy shipment as well as economical manufacture.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a top closure lid construction for a container. The lid is integrally formed from a plastic cover member, the member carrying a main paperboard insert on its upper surface, the member and insert being secured together. The plastic cover member has an integral tongue to define, upon tongue pivoting, an opening in the member. The main paperboard insert is hinged about a contiguous pivot axis, and carries a pull tab. Spaced lugs or detents are provided to facilitate reclosing of the closure. If formed from a brittle plastics material, pulling the pull tab breaks the plastics member at its tongue hinge. The closure lid further includes an upstanding wall which enables stacking.

Abstract: A carton and a blank for forming same are provided for a single serving of dessert pie. The carton formed from the blank is substantially wedge shaped and includes top and bottom panels disposed in parallel relationship. The top and bottom panels each are of isosceles triangular configuration. The top panel is of larger dimensions than the bottom panel thereby reflecting the actual configuration of the pie packaged in the carton erected from the blank. The subject carton erected from the blank includes a plurality of rear opening flaps providing access to the container from the rear portion thereof.

Abstract: A cylindrically shaped, open, rimmed topped carton suitable for containing ice cream or the like includes a polygonal shaped base and a pair of side wall sections formed integral with the base which are joined together along mutual edges to provide an essentially cylindrical exterior surface defining a rimmed circular opening in one end of the carton opposite the base. A plurality of Y-shaped pleats are provided in lower portions of the side walls at circumferentially spaced intervals corresponding to the juncture of the edges defining the polygonal base to provide a smooth transition of the side walls from an angular cross-section at the base to a rimmed circular cross-section at the open end of the carton. A rolled rim extends outwardly from the cylindrical side walls to assure tight frictional engagement with a removable lid while also facilitating lid removal.

Abstract: A one piece, flat, sheet of cardboard, or the like, is cut, slit, and scored to form a flat blank comprising an elongated, shallow, main tray section with a fore part for french fries and a rear part for a hamburg, as well as a laterally extending, shorter, shallow, tray section, foldable over the rear part to enclose the hamburg. The main tray includes a cover flap which folds over the french fries in the fore part of the main tray. Tongues and slots lock the dished hamburg cover and the flat french fry cover in closed position. The shallow, double trays, when partially erected, nest in stacks for storage and shipment because of tapered side walls.

Abstract: A generally, sift-proof or liquid-resistant container formed from a unitary sheet of paperboard having overlapped end portions secured in a single lap joint with the inner end portion presenting an upwardly facing surface for closing the space between the container body and lid in the area of the lap joint.

Abstract: A slip case which has an inner part that slides within an outer part is disclosed, the slip case being constructed with a one-piece outer cover for the outer part and a one-piece cover for the inner part so that the printed matter that lies on the cover will properly register between the two parts.
