Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for collecting and aggregating a plurality of power flow measurements from a plurality of devices in a power management system. The error bounds of the aggregated power flow measurement are then determined using at least one error model. Systems and methods are also provided for inferring AC power flows from DC power flows. A device having at least one DC power flow sensor is augmented with at least one AC power flow sensor AC and DC power flows through the device are measured using the sensors over a range of operating points. An inference model of AC power flow in the device as a function of DC power flow is then built, wherein the error of the model is bounded. DC power flow through the device and in similar devices can then be then measured and used to infer AC power flow for the device.

  • Patent number: 8756044
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments allow executable graphical models, such as block diagram models, to be graphically partitioned for execution on concurrent computing resources. Embodiments allow model components to be grouped into subtasks that are affiliated with tasks associated with concurrent computing resources. Tasks and sub graphs can be mapped to concurrent computing resources according to characteristics, such as sample time, solver type, etc. Embodiments further allow mappings to be visually indicated to a user via various display techniques including color, text, icons, shading, grouping of identifiers, etc. Concurrently executing portions of a model allows model results to be obtained faster than can be obtained when models are executed on a single computing resource, such as a single processor.

  • Patent number: 8756047
Abstract: ANN Loadflow Computation Method (LCM) is invented involving input vector composed of net nodal injected real power (P), reactive power (Q), and diagonal elements of conductance and susceptance matrices multiplied by squared initial guess node voltage magnitude (V) or sum of its squared real and imaginary components. Training, and testing and validating input data sets/vectors are generated by applying uniform and non-uniform scaling factors applied to base case loads P and Q at PQ-nodes, and resistance and reactance of network branches. These scale factors are increased until Loadflow Solution by a conventional LCM diverges due to V or angle (?) instability. V and ? values in the solution just before divergence are respective stability limits, and corresponding values in Loadflow Solution provide direct measure of respective stability margins. Suresh's diakoptics based feature selection technique is presented for calculating one node variable with one neuron in each of ANNs output layers.

  • Patent number: 8682635
Abstract: The present invention provides novel techniques for controlling energy systems. In particular, parametric hybrid models may be used to parameterize inputs and outputs of groups of equipment of energy systems. Each parametric hybrid model may include an empirical model, a parameter model, and a dynamic model. Critical parameters for groups of equipment modeled by the parametric hybrid models, which are correlated with, but not the same as, input and output variables of the groups of equipment may be monitored during operation of the energy system. The critical parameters may be used to generate optimal trajectories for the energy system, which may be used to control the energy system.

  • Patent number: 8650019
Abstract: Approaches for creating a timed hybrid simulation model for a circuit design specification. An untimed, high-level language (HLL) data-path model is input, along with an HLL data-path interface specification that specifies input ports of the HLL data-path model. A hardware description language (HDL) control-path model that specifies port attributes and associated stitching directives is generated. Each stitching directive specifies a control port and an associated one of the input ports of the HLL data-path model. The HLL data-path and HDL control-path models are linked (314) to create the timed hybrid simulation model, and the timed hybrid simulation model is stored in a processor-readable storage medium.

  • Patent number: 8645114
Abstract: A system and method for generating fluid flow parameter data for use in aerodynamic heating analysis. Computational fluid dynamics data is generated for a number of points in an area on a surface to be analyzed. Sub-areas corresponding to areas of the surface for which an aerodynamic heating analysis is to be performed are identified. A computer system automatically determines a sub-set of the number of points corresponding to each of the number of sub-areas and determines a value for each of the number of sub-areas using the data for the sub-set of points corresponding to each of the number of sub-areas. The value is determined as an average of the data for the sub-set of points corresponding to each of the number of sub-areas. The resulting parameter values then may be used to perform an aerodynamic heating analysis.

  • Patent number: 8626481
Abstract: Approaches for simulating a circuit design. A block diagram of the circuit design is displayed. Each block has at least one input and at least one output, and at least one of the input or output of each block is connected to another block. Simulation data are input to a simulation model of the circuit design. During simulation of each of a plurality of the sub-circuits with the simulation model, an output data value is determined from one or more input data values to the simulated sub-circuit. Concurrent with determining the output data value, an output tag value corresponding to the output data value is determined. Concurrent with output of the output data value from the simulated sub-circuit, each output tag value is displayed proximate an output signal line from the block corresponding to the sub-circuit.

  • Patent number: 8583407
Abstract: A method of modeling a surface of an object using ultrasonic transducers mounted on the surface by: providing a model of the surface comprising a primary set of surface points indicative of the height of the surface, transmitting pulsed waves from a first transducer to one or more second transducers along respective paths along the surface, measuring travel times of the pulsed waves along each path, calculating travel times based on the model of the surface, adjusting the model of the surface in response to any discrepancies between the measured travel times and the calculated travel times. The above steps are repeated until the discrepancies are smaller than a predetermined threshold. The step of calculating the travel times comprises interpolating the primary set of surface points in order to obtain an expanded secondary set of surface points, and the travel times are calculated using the expanded set.

  • Patent number: 8577663
Abstract: A system and method for identifying a monitoring point in an electrical and electronic system (EES) in a vehicle. The method includes defining a network model of the EES where potential monitoring point locations in the model are identified as targets, such as nodes. The method then computes a betweenness centrality metric for each target in the model as a summation of a ratio of a number of shortest paths between each pair of targets in the model that pass through the target whose betweenness centrality metric is being determined to a total number of shortest paths between each pair of targets. The method identifies which of the betweenness centrality metrics are greater than a threshold that defines a minimum acceptable metric and determines which of those targets meets a predetermined model coverage. The monitoring point is selected as the target that best satisfies the minimum metric and the desired coverage.

  • Patent number: 8566070
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus abnormality monitoring method, and it provides a technology that can achieve accurate abnormality detection, cause diagnosis, and others. This system relates to monitoring of a newly-installed apparatus (T) among a plurality of similar apparatuses 1. In a judgment model creation module 2, for each of a plurality of (K) already-installed similar apparatuses (a, b and others), individual judgment models (prediction models) are created, and a meta prediction model for predicting a coefficient and an intercept of these prediction models from feature item values and others of each of the apparatuses 1 is created. From this meta prediction model, a prediction model dedicated to the apparatus (T) (judgment model including the prediction model) is produced. By using this judgment model, a judgment module 3T monitors the state of the apparatus (T) to perform abnormality detection.

  • Patent number: 8527246
Abstract: A method provides modeling of surface roughness effect of an electrical conductor. The method includes identifying first protrusions of a first level using an original flat surface of the conductor as a first base surface and determining a first correction factor of the first level using parameters of the first protrusions. The method further includes identifying second protrusions of a second level using the first protrusions and the first base surface as a second base surface, and determining a second correction factor of the second level using parameters of the second protrusions and regarding the second base surface as being a smooth surface, the smooth surface being a surface of the conductor without surface roughness effect. A final correction factor of the conductor is determined by combining the first correction factor and the second correction factor.
