  • Patent number: 6807575
Abstract: The present invention provides a performance monitoring method of a processing flow that, in a distributed object system, a processing is completed after going by way of processing of several objects through objects. A collector collects, as performance data, a receiving time of a message from the other object and a sending time of a message to the other for an object that becomes a measurement target on each computer. A manager puts received performance data together and calculates and displays a processing time of each object that constitutes a processing flow and a communication time between objects.

  • Patent number: 6804722
Abstract: A communication service provision system, method and device to provide a communication service which provision various communication devices to realize communication service ordered by a customer and reduce the load of an operator by utilizing a policy server. In the invention, the following are performed. A customer care server executes order processing suitable for communication service ordered by a customer. An operational flow manager activates a design server based upon contents stored in an operational flow storage when the order processing is finished and instructs the design server to execute route computing. When the operation is finished, a policy server sets configuration data to respective communication devices composing a route suitable for the order of the customer. Network design can be also performed by inputting route data and policy data from the policy server without using the design server.

  • Patent number: 6718389
Abstract: A system and method are provided for executing a request from a client application. Unlike conventional networks in which a client application transmits several data access transactions to several server applications, the client application of these preferred embodiments merely sends a single request to a gateway application, which converts the request into appropriate data access transactions. The preferred embodiments provide the advantage of allowing a client application to communicate with a plurality of server applications without knowing the server application's format or syntax requirements. Further, unlike environments in which a client application compiles data received from each contacted server application, in the environment of the preferred embodiments, the client application is presented with a single integrated response.

  • Patent number: 6714992
Abstract: The present disclosed system is directed toward a communication and management system that dynamically targets network devices for content deployment, such as application programs, device drivers, configuration files, and registry subhives. Moreover, the present system targets users of network devices for promotions, such as advertisements offered by Internet e-commerce sites. Promotions are generally icons or graphic images with links to host web servers overlaying a video display, but also includes audio and video clips or data streams. Network devices and their users are targeted through user profiles. User profiles are created when network devices register with the system server and are continually updated with information provided by user activity and event logs that are periodically uploaded from each device.

  • Patent number: 6708202
Abstract: A form for displaying an electronic message item includes an information object that highlights important information about the message. The information displayed in the information object is automatically derived by examining the message properties that constitute the message item. The examination of the message properties includes applying a series of if-then statements to predetermined message properties. If the results of one or more of the if-then tests are true, the program composes one or more information items that reflect the state of the message item. The program will also examine data external to the message item. The information items are composed in a natural language format and are prioritized prior to being displayed in the information object.

  • Patent number: 6694361
Abstract: A cluster includes a fabric, a host coupled to the fabric, an I/O enclosure coupled to the fabric, and a subnet manager. The subnet manager performs a topology discovery of the cluster and detects ports associated with the fabric. The subnet manager computes a minimal spanning tree for the cluster, which connects every port to every other port through a single path. The subnet manager assigns a single base LID to each port and programs the assigned LIDs into forwarding tables in the fabric. Additional LIDs are reserved for each port while the single base LID is assigned to each port such that the fabric is functional and connected when the subnet manager is performing a path analysis of the cluster.

  • Patent number: 6651089
Abstract: An arrangement that is particularly suitable for Internet, where a user receives a number of channels concurrently. The channel that is of current interest to the user is sent with a given bandwidth, while other channels (surfing channels) are sent at reduced bandwidth. The user's receiver buffers all of the received channels, and plays the channel of current interest in full fidelity. When a user wishes to surf, the buffered surfing channels are made available and are played to the user in accordance with the user's requests. When the user selects another channel to be of current interest, the user's terminal sends out a request for the new channel to be sent to the user at the given bandwidth, and thence provides the user with the newly selected channel at full fidelity.

  • Patent number: 6574669
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for routing packets within a computer network uses linear optimization techniques to distribute the packet traffic over all potential links between a source and a destination node within the network. Network traffic is allocated to links coupled to a source node in a manner that is proportional to the bandwidth of links across complete paths which are fed from such links coupled to the source node. A set of metrics, in the form of complex numbers, is determined for a predetermined set of links within the network. The metrics are arranged as a matrix, and a linear optimization operation is performed using the matrix to determine percentage traffic distribution over links coupling the source node and the destination node in the network. Routing tables are then established to route traffic within the network according to the percentage values resulting from the linear optimization operation.

  • Patent number: 6411986
Abstract: An apparatus, method and computer program product for network client-server multiplexing. The apparatus is implemented within an interface unit connecting a plurality of servers to the Internet, which is connected to a plurality of clients. According to a “connection pooling” aspect of the invention, the interface unit opens and maintains connections with the servers and handles the opening and closing of connections with clients accessing the servers, thereby freeing the servers of the processing load incurred by opening and closing connections. According to a “connection distribution” aspect oft he invention, the interface unit examines the path names within requests received from clients and selects the server hosting the requested information according to the path names.

  • Patent number: 6343316
Abstract: The cooperative work support system of the present invention has at least a first terminal and a second terminal in a communication network, wherein each terminal comprises: a file system for storing a shared file; a file transmitter for transmitting the shared file between the first terminal and the second terminal; and a sharable file list manager for registering shared file information into a sharable file list. The sharable file list manager in the second terminal determines whether the shared file exists within the second terminal based on the shared file information, and sends a transmission request to request the first terminal to transmit the shared file to the second terminal when the shared file does not exist within the second terminal. The file transmitter in the first terminal sends the shared file from the first terminal to the second terminal through the communication network in response to the transmission request.

  • Patent number: 6324584
Abstract: A method and system for operating a router in a computer network. When the system receives a request from a client machine connected to the computer network to access data at a remote server location having an address, it accesses the remote server at the address via the computer network. The router causes the data to be transmitted from the server to the router. The system maintains a pre-determined profile at the router, which profile contains storage selection criteria. The system selectively determines whether the data is to be stored at the router by comparing the data and/or the address to the storage selection criteria. If the data conforms to the criteria, it is stored in a mass storage device at the router and transmitted to the client machine which initiated the request. When a subsequent request is received at the router to access the data at the remote server location the router first accesses the data from the mass storage device to determine if the information is already present locally.

  • Patent number: 6314464
Abstract: Route control and resource reservation mechanisms are integrated so as to perform multicast communication efficiently. In response to a connection establishment request from a new receiver (host F) with a sender (host A), resources are temporarily reserved and a route suitable for the receiver initiated request is selected, and the connection establishment request is transferred to an upper node. A similar process is performed in host D, and a connection establishment request is transferred to an upper node. In host C, resources are reserved, a confirmation request is transferred to a lower node, and the confirmation request is transferred to the host F via host D. In host F, the quantity of resources is adjusted, and the establishment of the connection with host A is completed.

  • Patent number: 6304342
Abstract: An image-processing apparatus and a control method for this apparatus. Image data is received through a communication section and is recorded by a recording section onto a recording material fed from a manual-feeding tray. Recording materials of various sizes can be set on this tray. The correct recording-material size is obtained based on the size of the received image data and is displayed, and an indication is also given to check whether the recording operation is to be performed. If the manual-feeding operation has been selected, an alarm sound indicates that the image data has been received. The processing then proceeds according to the instruction given in response to the display. Further, if it is determined that a recording error has occurred when the recording operation is performed through manual feeding, the image data is stored in a non-volatile storage.
