  • Patent number: 5516305
Abstract: An electrical plug removal device for use with electrical plugs of the type having an electrical cord, a cord cap or plug, and electrically conductive spaced apart blades or prongs, the electrically conductive spaced apart blades being plugged into an electrical outlet or receptacle. Many people remove an electrical plug from an electrical outlet by simply taking hold of the electrical cord and pulling on the electrical cord to remove the electrical plug from the electrical outlet. This action results in damage to the electrical cord or to the electrical plug itself that may lead to electric shock or electrocution of the person removing an electrical plug in this manner, or may lead to an electrical fire. The electrical plug removal device is constructed from thin non-conductive semi-flexible material designed to be used with a variety of electrical plugs having different types of cord caps and different shapes, configurations and numbers of electrically conductive spaced apart blades or prongs.

  • Patent number: 5511984
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly according to the current invention comprises a receptacle and a right angle header for connecting two or more printed circuit boards. A composite action beam is located in the receptacle and has a movable end and a fixed end. During an initial phase of the pin insertion cycle, the movable end of the composite action beam deflects so as to minimize the force necessary to insert the pin into the connector housing. During an intermediate phase of the insertion cycle, the movable end contacts an inside wall of the connector and the composite action beam functions as a two-end supported beam. The composite action beam supported at both ends exerts sufficiently high normal force against the inserted pin so as to retain the pin in the inserted position. Thus, the composite action beam reduces insertion force without compromising normal retention force once the pin is inserted.

  • Patent number: 5505632
Abstract: A charger-side connector is moved toward a battery-side connector through the engagement of a positioning projection formed on the battery-side connector in a guide groove formed on the charger-side connector by rotating an outer tube. At this time, the outer tube is retained relative to an inner tube in predetermined positional relation by straight grooves and plunger mechanisms. The retaining positions are determined in accordance with conditions of connection between power and signal terminals of one connector and power and signal terminals of the other connector, and therefore the rotational condition as viewed from the outside indicates the connected condition of the terminals.

  • Patent number: 5503569
Abstract: A latching mechanism for releasably locking the electrical contacts of an electrical connector in the connector housing is disclosed. Each contact is surrounded by a collet having inwardly extending protrusions that are in depressions formed in the outer surfaces of the contacts. A retaining member is movable to a locked position where it surrounds each of the collets to prevent expansion thereof thereby locking the contacts in place within the housing. The retaining member is also movable to an unlocked position away from the collets, which allows expansion of a collet so that a damaged contact can be removed by simply pulling it out of the housing. A latching mechanism is provided to move the retaining member to its locked and unlocked positions from outside of the connector without disassembly thereof.

  • Patent number: 5499929
Abstract: A connector for mounting an LGA device on a circuit board comprises a film contact having electrode bumps on inner ends of respective conductive paths at predetermined spaced apart locations corresponding to respective locations of the individual electrode lands on the LGA device and is clamped extending across a central cavity defined between housing base and frame members. A flat elastomeric biassing pad having a series of upstanding, closely spaced resilient projections is retained by the base member in the cavity with the projections supporting spaced apart locations of one surface of the film contact while a cover member retains the device in the cavity in the frame member with the respective lands thereof pressed against respective electrode bumps, compressing the biassing pad to assure sufficient contact pressure. The cover member has a camming detent which progressively engages the device during closing, moving the device across the film contact with a wiping action.

  • Patent number: 5499933
Abstract: A probe pin for inspection composing a unit to inspect a printed circuit is formed with a conductive metallic tube into which a plunger is inserted with a spring. The plunger is slidably projected from the top end of the conductive metallic tube and a plurality of hollow salients are formed symmetrically on outer surface of the conductive metallic tube to extend in the axial direction so that the conductive metallic tube is easily pushed into a plurality of holding openings formed on an insulated holding plate. Thus, the probe pins come in contact with each contact on the printed circuit without coming off, slanting or bending of the conductive metallic tube or further without breaking the salients or without deviating the installation of the conductive metallic tube from the holding openings on the holding plate, and a slip-on socket is provided to mate with the probe pin for inspection.

  • Patent number: 5496194
Abstract: An electrical connector is disclosed having a movable contact retainer that cooperates with the connector housing to either retain or release the contacts. The retainer in movable from a closed position where the contacts are secured in place with respect to the connector housing and to an open position where the contacts are free to be removed for repair or replacement. A latch mechanism is provided that is operable from outside of the connector to move the contact retainer to either of its two positions. The latch mechanism includes a latch lever having a raised surface that, when depressed flush with a surface on the connector housing by means of a tool and pushed in the appropriate direction, is made to move from its closed position to its open position.

  • Patent number: 5496189
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly (10) of the type having a pair of mateable cylindrical plug and receptacle shells (18,22) secured together by a rotatable coupling ring (16). The connector assembly is provided with a decoupling retardation mechanism which includes engageable teeth (34) on the interior of the coupling ring (16) and a pair of leaf spring members (46,72) mounted to the plug shell (18) inwardly of the teeth (34). The leaf spring member (46,72) includes a fixed beam portion (62,82) having a projection (64,84) which engages the teeth (34). The sides of the teeth and the projection are steeper on one side than the other. The steeper side is the one which is engaged when the coupling ring (16) is rotated in the direction to decouple the shells (18,22). Accordingly, greater torque is required to decouple the shells than to couple the shells.
