  • Patent number: 7446708
Abstract: A single-feedpoint multiband monopole antenna is provided with independent radiator elements. The antenna comprises a microstrip counterpoise coupler having a single-feedpoint interface, a first radiator interface, and a second radiator interface. A first microstrip radiator, i.e. a meander line microstrip, has an end connected to the counterpoise coupler first radiator interface, and an unterminated end. A second microstrip radiator, i.e. a straight-line microstrip, has an end connected to the counterpoise coupler second radiator interface, and an unterminated end. The two radiators are capable of resonating at non-harmonically related frequencies. As with the two microstrip radiators, the microstrip counterpoise coupler is a conductive trace formed overlying a sheet of dielectric material. The counterpoise coupler can come in a variety of shapes, so that the overall antenna may take on a number of form factors.

  • Patent number: 7446721
Abstract: The present invention relates to a satellite tracking antenna system and a satellite tracking method. Step tracking in which the size of a satellite signal sampled in at least one position in which a reflector of the satellite tracking antenna system is tilted is compared to track a satellite is performed, and a measured value of the satellite signal sampled in a specific position in which the reflector is tilted in N?1th tracking and a measured value of the satellite signal sampled in the specific position in which the reflector is tilted in Nth tracking are averaged to compute a value. The reflector is driven according to the value to track the satellite, thereby minimizing a satellite tracking error caused by a sudden movement of a mobile body equipped with the satellite tracking antenna system.

  • Patent number: 7446722
Abstract: There is provided a telescope system including: a main reflector unit; a pedestal unit that bears the main reflector unit to be rotatable around AZ and EL axes; and a motor that drives the main reflector unit. The telescope system corrects deformation of the main reflector unit and the pedestal unit due to the wind force to improve pointing accuracy of the mina mirror unit and the pedestal unit. The telescope system detects motor torques on the AZ axis and the EL axis, predicts deformation of a telescope due to the wind force from torque signals of the motor torques and a pointing error due to the deformation and feeds back the deformation and the pointing error to AZ and EL command values to perform correction of the pointing error.

  • Patent number: 7436367
Abstract: An antenna for mounting on a motor-vehicle part formed with a throughgoing hole of nonround shape has a base plate engageable with the part over the hole and carrying antenna components and a stem projecting through the hole. A bayonet plate has an outer edge of nonround shape capable of passing axially through the hole of the part and not able to pass through the hole of the part in another angularly offset position. This bayonet plate can move angularly on the base plate between an install position and a holding position and is urged by a spring toward the base plate and against the part. Spacers engageable in the install position hold the bayonet plate at a predetermined large axial spacing from the base plate and disengage from each other in the holding position to allow the bayonet plate to be pressed by the spring against the motor-vehicle part.

  • Patent number: 7432868
Abstract: A low power, lightweight, collapsible and rugged antenna positioner for use in communicating with geostationary, geosynchronous and low earth orbit satellite. By collapsing, invention may be easily carried or shipped in a compact container. May be used in remote locations with simple or automated setup and orientation. Azimuth is adjusted by rotating an antenna in relation to a positioner base and elevation is adjusted by rotating an elevation motor coupled with the antenna. Manual orientation of antenna for linear polarized satellites yields lower weight and power usage. Updates ephemeris or TLE data via satellite. Algorithms used for search including Clarke Belt fallback, transponder/beacon searching switch, azimuth priority searching and tracking including uneven re-peak scheduling yield lower power usage. Orientation aid via user interface allows for smaller azimuth motor, simplifies wiring and lowers weight. Tilt compensation, bump detection and failure contingency provide robustness.

  • Patent number: 7427961
Abstract: A method for improving the efficiency of antennas having transparent thin-film conductive surfaces, and antennas improved by the method are disclosed. For a selected frequency of antenna operation, values for surface current density in areas distributed over the surface of the thin-film are determined. Regions of the surface containing areas having concentrated current flow are identified based upon the determined values of current density. Antenna efficiency is improved by increasing conductivity in areas of the thin-film surface found to have concentrated current flow. The method enables the improvement of the efficiency of antennas having transparent thin-film conducting surfaces, without unnecessarily obstructing the optical view through the thin-film surfaces of the antennas.
