  • Patent number: 6240421
Abstract: A Method and System and Apparatus for the organization, storage and retrieval of information from both computer databases and from hard copy files. The system uses a three dimensional graphical interface that aids the user in visualizing the virtual three dimensional organizational scheme of the invention. Each orthogonal face of the Filecube Virtual File Cabinet graphical interface is intended to represent different ways of organizing individual files. For instance, one face of the Filecube could represent the time based phases of a file, another face of the Filecube could represent different types of files and a third face of the Filecube could represent different categories of files. Each computer based and hard copy file contains identifier fields that identify each item of information associated with an individual file, whether it may be found in a computer database or in a hard copy file and a brief summary identifying the contents of each item of information.

  • Patent number: 6195658
Abstract: A method for auditing databases containing records of varied record formats verifies records from a test database against records from a reference database. Records from the test database are converted to test tokens, and records from the reference database are converted to reference tokens. The tokens summarize select fields of data from the records. Thereafter, pattern recognition techniques are used to analyze the tokens to determine Whether the data in the test tokens matches to data in the reference tokens. When an erroneous test token is discovered, an update token is generated to correct a corresponding record in the test database. This method is particularly well suited for auditing enhanced 911 emergency telephone service selective router databases.

  • Patent number: 6144963
Abstract: A document display apparatus, method, and storage medium for realizing the apparatus and method extract data information relevant to each document of a plurality of electronic documents, count the number of the relevant documents in a given unit of time based on the extracted date information, and display the number of the counted documents and frequency information about a document containing visual information obtained based on the number of the documents in a given unit of time. A date is extracted by performing a pattern matching for a predetermined date expression. A unit of counting a frequency can be a year, month, day-of-week, or day. The visual information can be displayed by changing a color, brightness, and size of symbols or graphics depending on an intensity level obtained by normalizing a frequency. The distribution of date information contained in a plurality of electronic documents in a given unit of time can be easily obtained through a visual expression.

  • Patent number: 6108652
Abstract: In a local area network emulation architecture, an improved search approach is achieved when the set of nodes to be searched is divided into N subsets for a seriatim search through the subsets. The allocation of the nodes to the different subsets is algorithmically determined for minimum, or near minimum, utilization of resources. Illustratively, the algorithm disclosed determines whether a node in subset i should be reassigned to subset i+1 based on whether ##EQU1## where .epsilon. is the probability that the node under consideration contains the information searched for, p.sub.i is the probability that the information searched for is found in subset i, and k.sub.i+1 is the number of nodes in subset i+1. The algorithm determines whether a node in subset i should be reassigned to subset i-1 based on whether ##EQU2## where .epsilon. is the probability that the node under consideration contains the information searched for, p.sub.
