C. in methyl ethyl ketone, which is prepared by a two-stage polymerization process of vinylidene fluoride monomer and at least one other fluorine-containing monomer wherein monomers are copolymerized in an aqueous medium in the presence of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator at a first stage to give a first stage-copolymer having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.01 to 3.0 at 35.degree. C.
Abstract: Shaped articles are produced from compositions of sulfur and a particulate inorganic material, at least 10% by weight of the particulate inorganic material being fly ash. The initial compositions are uniform dry blends, and the finished products are formed by converting the sulfur of the composition to molten form and then cooling while, as in casting, the molten material is confined in the desired shape. Use of fly ash provides articles having a hardness more than twice that of sulfur alone and a compressive strength approaching three times that of a typical aged poured concrete.
Abstract: This invention relates to a curable resinous composition which comprises (I) 100 parts by weight of unsaturated alkyd obtained by the condensation reaction of an .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated polycarboxylic acid or its anhydride with polyhydric alcohol or alkylene oxide and (II) 1 - 200 parts by weight of an unsaturated cycloacetal obtained by the condensation reaction of an unsaturated aldehyde with a polyhydric alcohol.
Abstract: Thermosetting moulding material comprising an unsaturated polyester, a copolymerizable vinyl monomer and other additives are disclosed which contain as a shrinkage-reducing additive a copolymer of styrene with 2 to 10% by weight of an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, and 15 to 40% by weight of a dialkyl ester of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid. These compositions may be used as casting resins, in dough-moulding and in sheet-moulding to prepare dimensionally stable objects with a smooth surface and homogeneous coloration.
Abstract: A phenol-formaldehyde composition useful as a raw material for the preparation of phenolic resins, which comprises one or more phenols and not more than about 6 moles of formaldehyde per 1 mole of said one or more phenols, and, as optional components, not more than about 7 moles of water and not more than about 7 moles of methanol per 1 mole of said one or more phenols, the composition being obtained by dissolving formaldehyde into the one or more phenols, optionally with water or water plus methanol.
