  • Patent number: 4524623
Abstract: A transducer drive assembly is disclosed having particular application for use in medical diagnostic imaging systems. The drive assembly includes a rotor coupled to drive means for rotation about its longitudinal axis. The rotor is formed such that it includes an integrally formed contact plate which extends upwardly from a generally flat rotor face at a given angle. A transducer is carried in a cradle which is mounted for pivotal movement, and includes a lower base portion having a generally cylindrical cross section. The lower base portion of the cradle is disposed such that it is maintained in physical contact with the rotor contact plate at all times. The rotation of the rotor applies force to the lower base of the cradle resulting in the oscillation of the cradle about the pivot points. The transducer is thereby oscillated back and forth about the pivot points in a uniform and continuous movement so long as the rotor continues to rotate.

  • Patent number: 4524622
Abstract: A method and an apparatus of ultrasonic flaw detection suitable for detecting internal cavern defects of a material, the method involving the mounting on a rotary body of a plural number of skew probes in equidistant positions in the circumferential direction of the rotary body to provide a corresponding number of channels for transmitting and receiving ultrasonic beams in a direction intersecting the axis of rotation of the rotary body at different depths in an inspection zone of a material positioned opposingly to the probes. The rotary body is turned to revolve the probes through 360.degree. about the axis of rotation while transmitting and receiving the ultrasonic pulses. Selected flaw patterns are produced from the peak values of the echoes received at the detection gates of the respective channels in relation with the direction of incidence of the ultrasonic beams.

  • Patent number: 4525705
Abstract: The system according to the invention comprises a sensor composed of a movable unit formed by an electrical circuit in which are placed two supple blade switches closed by a rocking member in response to the presence of a yarn. Said circuit comprises a conductor wound on a magnetic core. The data transmitting device comprises a fixed looped conductor of which one part is parallel to the path followed by the sensor and traverses the core. Means are provided for generating oscillations in the looped conductor, as well as means for detecting a variation in the oscillating conditions induced by a change of state of the electrical circuit due to the closure of one switch and indicating that the sensor has met up with a yarn. Due to the detection of the variations in the oscillating conditions, it is possible to find out the number of breakages occurring in the textile machine.

  • Patent number: 4523467
Abstract: A resonant sensing device for measuring the hardness of a workpiece to be tested includes a diamond tipped rod adapted to be resonant and for determining the hardness of a workpiece to be tested is brought into forced contact with such workpiece. The difference in resonant frequency of the rod between its not-constrained condition and its constrained condition (forced contact) is a measure of the hardness of the workpiece. The present invention describes a circuit wherein during a first time interval an up/down counter accumulates the counts arising from the oscillations of the not-constrained rod. During the ensuing interval of the same duration, the counter counts down the accumulated count responsive to the oscillations of the constrained rod.

  • Patent number: 4522064
Abstract: An ultrasonic method and apparatus are described for determining the depth of cracks 12 in a pipe or conduit 14. The apparatus 10 includes a transmitting transducer 30 and a receiving transducer 40 that are placed on the outside surface of the pipe to one side of the pipe. The transmit transducer 30 is energized to direct a shear wave beam 34 of ultrasonic energy at the crack to generate a complex reflected wave front from the crack 12 which contains information as to the size of the crack in relation to the wall thickness. The recovery transducer 40 is moved relative to the transmit transducer until a peak or maximum amplitude reading is found. When the maximum amplitude is found, the distance between the transducers is measured. The measured distance is then correlated with information obtained from specimens 80 of the same material and wall thickness as the on-site pipe to determine the depth of the crack 12.

  • Patent number: 4519245
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the non-destructive testing of materials, particularly composite structures and other such laminated materials, which comprises repeatedly impacting the material being tested with a precisely regulated force having a pre-determined magnitude. The response generated by the material is detected by a sensor and a proportional electrical signal is generated. The electrical signal is compared with a stored electrical signal previously generated in response to impacting a defect-free reference material with the same precisely regulated pre-determined force. A difference in frequency and amplitude between the two compared electrical signals is indicative of a defect in the material being tested.

  • Patent number: 4515008
Abstract: A method for detecting a polymerization rate, wherein a polymer composition in a polymerization reaction process is sampled out and can be measured, and is separated into a volatile component and a non-volatile component, and the polymerization rate of the polymer composition is determined using the measured amount of the volatile component and/or non-volatile component, and also possibly the measured amount of the sample. Such method is best suited for detecting the rate of polymerization of polymer compositions. This enables proper quality control of the polymer composition in the polymerization reaction process.
