    Abstract: An electric motor lubrication system and a method of making the same are disclosed. The motor is a unit bearing motor with an oil reservoir at the bottom of a vertically disposed shaft. The motor rotor has a shaft jounaled in a bearing post on the frame, and the lower end of the poast has two grooves to receive an oil-saturated wick. Each groove has a flat bottom which extens at at least a 5-degree angle relative to the shaft axis, and the intersection of the flat bottom with the shaft aperture forms a plow edge having a component of force directing oil toward the bearing upon shaft rotation. This readily supplies oil upwardly for a vertical shaft motor. The foregoing abstract is merely a resume of one general application, is not a complete discussion of all principles of operation or applications, and is not to be construed as a limitation on the scope of the claimed subject matter.

    Abstract: A portable hand-held tool, such as a hammer drill or chisel hammer, includes a housing having a main vibration axis and a handle displaceably secured to the housing and movable toward the housing against compression springs. The springs have an axis of compression disposed at an angle to the main vibration axis. When the handle is displaced toward the housing, the spring is compressed. At the same time, however, the increased force of the spring is compensated by the increase in the angle of the spring relative to the main vibration axis. As a result, though the spring force increases, its component acting in the main vibration axis direction is reduced, and the spring force acting in the main vibration axis direction remains constant.

    Abstract: A water aerosol or fog-generating system comprises a pipe having a plurality of atomizing nozzles threaded to the walls thereof. The pipe has thin walls made from an alloy, preferably stainless steel, with nozzles affixed at various points along the piping. A plurality of pilot holes are provided at each nozzle location and the edges of each pilot hole are deformed inwardly by a punch so that more surface area is provided for threading the walls of the pilot hole. Preferably, the pilot hole has been reamed after punching and before the threads are made. An atomizing nozzle is mated with the threads on the punched and reamed hole. Seals are to be placed between the nozzle and the exterior piping surfaces.

A plurality of fiber shaping inserts are positioned in the root precursor portion, either by braiding the root precursor portion around the inserts or inserting the fiber shaping inserts into the root precursor portion after braiding, to impart an enlarged, divergent shape (e.g., dovetail precursor shape) to the braided root precursor portion. The braided preform with the enlarged, shaped root precursor portion is infiltrated with matrix material and shaped to near net shape to provide the composite blade with a dovetail shaped root.

    Abstract: A one-piece sealed, hollow, steel sliding screen door frame and method of fabrication thereof is described. A flat steel strip is diecut to produce miter cuts, each having an opposing flap. The cut strip is rolled to produce a frame stock having an essentially rectangular profile. Longitudinal edges of the strip are folded together, crimped and bonded during the rolling and form a screen channel in the frame stock. The frame stock is bent at right angles at the miter cuts such that the flaps tuck under the miter cuts, forming a rectangular door frame. Epoxy is used to bond the flaps to the inner surfaces adjacent the miter cuts. A screen door assembled using the door frame includes self-centering wheel assemblies.

    Abstract: A method of increasing the fatigue strength of crankshafts for reciprocating engines, especially internal combustion engines, is provided. When converting naturally aspirating production engines to supercharging to increase the power, the fatigue strength of the crankshaft quickly reaches a limit. Since for reasons of economy it is desirable not to alter the geometry of the crackshaft and to avoid expensive fine burnishing to increase the quality of the surface, and hence the fatigue strength associated therewith, the transition radius from the crankshaft pin to the crank web is inductively surface hardened, and at the same time the finish quality of the surface is reduced. The increased costs for the hardening are balanced by the reduced surface machining that is required.

    Abstract: A method of producing a cam shaft or a similar member that has a core pipe upon which are secured, via expansion of the core pipe, components that are spaced from one another and have a precribed position on the core pipe, with the expansion of the core pipe being effected by introducing a hydraulic fluid into the core pipe. The surface of the components that are secured on the core pipe and are made of a ductile spheroidal graphite iron or sintered material, are subjected to a mechanical abrasion and are melted via a controlled laser beam in such a way as to first slightly reduce the adhesive pressure betewwn the components and the core pipe as a consequence of the melting of the surface layer, and subsequently, after hardening of the melted layer and due to temperature equalization in the components and the core pipe, to increase the adhesive pressure to a higher value. The melting results in a ledeburitic structure having an adequate depth.
