Patent number: 9848391Abstract: A method for ground to air communication includes receiving a first pilot signal on a first wide beam from a first ground base station by a first antenna element covering a first range of azimuth angles from an aircraft. Data is received on a directed data beam from the first ground base station by the first antenna element. A second pilot signal is received on a second wide beam from a second ground base station by a second antenna element covering a second range of azimuth angles different than the first range of azimuth angles. A signal strength of the second pilot signal is compared with a signal strength of the first pilot signal. Data reception is switched from the first antenna element to the second antenna element if the signal strength of the second pilot signal is greater than the signal strength of the first pilot signal.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2014Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Ahmad Jalali, Mohammad A. Patent number: 9832785Abstract: A method of wireless communication includes adjusting a channel quality indicator (CQI) to compensate for coexistence interference experienced between communication resources (such as an LTE radio and a Bluetooth radio). The CQI may be set to zero, falsely indicating to a serving enhanced NodeB that a UE is out of range, thereby creating a gap in LTE operation that may be used by an alternate radio access technology. To compensate for fluctuating interference, the CQI may be adjusted to incorporate average coexistence interference over a period of time. Alternatively, the CQI at a time may incorporate coexistence interference regardless of whether interference is experienced at that specific time. A CQI value may also be boosted to compensate for a CQI backoff. CQI may be adjusted to avoid a spiral of death effect.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2016Date of Patent: November 28, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Tamer Adel Kadous, Pranav Dayal, Ashok Mantravadi, Peter Gaal, Jibing Wang

Patent number: 9831903Abstract: Methods, devices, and servers for as-needed update of a trusted list are provided herein. An electronic subscriber identity module (eSIM) server receives a request for an eSIM of a particular type from a wireless device. The eSIM server evaluates the particular type and requests an eSIM of the particular type from a second eSIM server, which is not initially trusted by a secure element (SE) of the wireless device. The eSIM server sends a policy update to the wireless device. The wireless device passes the policy update to the SE, for example, a universal integrated circuit card (UICC). The UICC updates the trusted list with an identity of the second eSIM server. When the wireless device downloads a bound profile package (BPP) containing an eSIM from the second eSIM server, the UICC validates the BPP based on the updated trusted list. The eSIM is then installed on the UICC.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2016Date of Patent: November 28, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Avinash Narasimhan, Hemant Purswani, Clark P. Mueller, David T. Patent number: 9800688Abstract: Embodiments include processes, systems, and devices for initiating proximity actions upon the activation of a proximity connection. A proximity service receives an indication from a proximity provider that a proximity connection is established, and then determines a joint proximity context of the proximity connection. The proximity service then initiates a proximity action to facilitate a proximity function indicated by the joint proximity context. Joint proximity contexts include indications that an application has queued content to be shared with a proximity device, that an application has registered to publish messages on a namespace, that an application has subscribed to messages on a namespace, that an application has registered to find a peer application on a proximity device to enable multi-user collaboration, and that a device seeks to pair with another device.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2011Date of Patent: October 24, 2017Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Marc Christopher Pottier, Max Glenn Morris, Travis J. Patent number: 9762316Abstract: A gesture is performed by a wireless accessory attempting to pair with a device. The gesture comprises a series of user interactions associated with accessory data detected at the accessory and device data detected at the device. The device begins looking for accessories advertising a Bluetooth service indicating they are attempting to pair. Once an accessory is identified, the device compares the device data to the accessory data for that particular accessory. If the accessory data matches the device data, the gesture detected at the device was made by the accessory and a secure connection can be established. Based on the secure connection, a clock associated with the accessory may synchronize with a clock associated with the device for additional security and fidelity.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2014Date of Patent: September 12, 2017Assignee: Adobe Systems IncorporatedInventors: Timothy W. Patent number: 9730186Abstract: Functionality is described by selecting a channel in an environment in which non-privileged entities have subordinate access rights to spectrum compared to privileged entities. The functionality operates by identifying spectrum that is available to all nodes involved in communication (where the nodes are associated with non-privileged entities). The functionality then generates a suitability assessment for each candidate channel within the available spectrum. The functionality selects a channel having the most desirable suitability assessment. The functionality can form a suitability assessment for a candidate channel of arbitrary width, e.g., by combining suitability assessments associated with constituent spectrum units within the candidate channel.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2014Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Ranveer Chandra, Thomas Moscibroda, Rohan Narayana Murty, Paramvir Bahl
