Abstract: A carbon material and a method of manufacturing the carbon material are provided. By affixing diamond particles onto a carbonaceous substrate in a condition in which etching caused by hydrogen radicals is unlikely to occur, the substrate etching rate can be suppressed, and the carbon material is allowed to have a diamond thin film having excellent adhesion capability. The carbon material has a carbonaceous substrate showing a weight decrease under a diamond synthesis condition, diamond particles disposed on a surface of the carbonaceous substrate, and a diamond layer having the diamond particles as seeds. The weight of the diamond particles per unit area is set to from 1.0×10?4 g/cm2 to less than 3.0×10?3 g/cm2.
Abstract: Small crystal size is the issue of a conventional method for formation of a film of graphene by a thermal CVD technique using a copper foil as a substrate. A carbon film laminate is described in which graphene having a larger crystal size is formed. The carbon film laminate is configured to include a sapphire single crystal having a surface composed of terrace surfaces which are flat at the atomic level, and atomic-layer steps, a copper single crystal thin film formed by epitaxial growth on the substrate, and graphene deposited on the copper single crystal thin film, and thus enabling formation of graphene having a large crystal size.

Abstract: The invention relates to an anti-friction coating (4) for a multi-layered friction bearing (1) made from a tin-based alloy which, in addition to tin, contains at least one element from the group comprising antimony and copper as the main alloying element, optionally lead and/or bismuth, and unavoidable impurities originating from the elements during the manufacturing process, and the proportion of antimony is at most 20% by weight, the proportion of copper is at most 10% by weight and the total proportion of lead and bismuth is at most 1.
Abstract: The present invention provides a ceramic to ceramic joint and methods for making such a joint. Generally, the joint includes a first ceramic part and a second ceramic part, wherein the first and second ceramic parts each include a ceramic-carbide or a ceramic-nitride material. In some cases, an aluminum-initiated joint region joins the first and second ceramic parts. This joint region typically includes chemical species from the first and second ceramic parts that have diffused into the joint region. Additionally, the first and second ceramic parts each typically include a joint diffusion zone that is disposed adjacent to the joint region and which includes aluminum species from the joint region that have diffused into the joint diffusion zone. Other implementations are also described.
