Abstract: An exemplary fixing apparatus is for mounting a hard disk drive (HDD) having a plurality of holes defined in sidewalls and includes a bracket, a pair of shock absorbing members, and a plurality of fixing pins. The bracket includes an end plate, and a pair of side plates extending from two ends of the end plate. The side plates include a pair of latches extending therefrom and detachably locking with each other. The shock absorbing members are attached to insides of the side plates. The fixing pins are attached to the shock absorbing members and engage in the holes of the HDD.

Abstract: An auxiliary input device for menu control on a portable computing device is provided. The auxiliary input device includes a lighting unit, an optical lens, and an optical sensor. The lighting unit is for projecting light to a surface upon which the portable computing device is moved upon. The optical lens is for receiving reflected light from the surface and focusing the reflected light on the optical sensor. The optical sensor is for periodically capturing images of the reflected light and transmitting information of the images captured to the portable computing device. The images captured map a movement of the portable computing device. Accordingly, the portable computing device scrolls through a menu displayed thereon according to the images captured. A related method is also provided.

Abstract: A mechanism for protecting a portable electronic device, e.g., a handheld computer system. In one embodiment, the present invention is comprised of an encasing structure having an opening and configured to receive and have disposed therewithin the handheld computer system. The present invention is further comprised of a lifting device coupled to the encasing structure. The lifting device is adapted to raise the handheld computer system above the confines of the encasing structure and further adapted to lower the handheld computer system to a disposition therewithin the encasing structure. The encasing structure can be used to protect input/output ports or slots, I/Os externally disposed on side surfaces of the handheld computer system when the handheld computer system is disposed within the encasing structure, and the lifting device enables raising the handheld computer system above the confines of the encasing structure to provide access to the I/Os.

Abstract: In a display apparatus (1), a stand leg (120) is made of a casting material which has a light-weight and which is hard to be deformed in a twist direction, and a display portion fixing members (121) each being made of a steel sheet material which is excellent in ductility are fixed to the stand leg (120) by using screws to form a supporting body (12). Therefore, it is possible to obtain the small-scale supporting body (12) in which there is no reduction in strength of a member having strength as compared with an integral molded article made by casting.
