  • Patent number: 7324335
Abstract: In a disk array system, techniques advantageous in terms of economy and maintenance and capable of realizing high-density wiring of data signal wiring and power feed wiring on a backboard, and flexibly implementing specification change, processing performance improvement, etc. are provided according to a DKC mounting method different from conventional ones. In a power feed unit of the backboard, the power feed wiring comprises a bus bar of three-dimensional structure which reserves a gap distance with respect to a face of the backboard. The data signal wiring connecting connectors is provided in an area below the bus bar, thereby providing high-density wiring. The gap distance is formed to meet a design specification which makes the power supply noise influence of the power feed wiring of the bus bar on the data signal wiring satisfactory small. Power feed connectors and locator pins for logical packages are connected on the bus bar.

  • Patent number: 7319586
Abstract: A system and method for an improved multiple hard-disk-drive data-storage enclosure. Some embodiments position drives in counter-rotating pairs, each simultaneously accessing half the data, such that seek-caused actuator rotational-acceleration vibration cause simultaneous canceling rotational torque. Some embodiments position the edge of a first drive (or drive pair) at an angle to the actuator midpoint of a nearby second drive (or drive pair), such that rotational-acceleration vibration from a seek-caused actuator rotation in the first drive does not cause a rotational movement into the second drive that affects the tracking or seek operation. Some further embodiments position drives in a herringbone pattern to redirect air flow in addition to reducing rotational-acceleration vibration interaction. Other embodiments include a printed wire circuit board mounted to reduce the rotational-acceleration vibration interaction.

  • Patent number: 7307837
Abstract: A mechanism for changing ownership over the physical power to a blade server in a blade center chassis that prevents a malfunctioning blade from jeopardizing other components in the chassis. When the management module is not present, control over power to the blade is switched to a service processor on the blade. This arbitration of control over power to a blade is accomplished by implementing a watchdog timer mechanism. The management module is responsible for tickling the watchdog timer when the present in the chassis and operating normally. This mechanism provides the management module with control over power. If the management module malfunctions or is removed, control over power is switched to the local service processor on the blade server as soon as the watchdog timer is not tickled.
