Abstract: DV data is streamed to a DV device without losing the leading section of the streaming data, and in a frame-accurate manner by sending a command to the DV device for performing an absolute track number search for a selected track number. A predetermined number of frames of DV data are then pre-rolled. The predetermined number of frames that are pre-rolled depends on the particular DV device. Next, a command is sent to the DV device to place the DV device in a RECORD PAUSE state, and a wait operation of a predetermined period of time is performed. The wait operation of a predetermined number of frames is also based on the particular DV device. A command is sent to the DV device to place the DV device in a RECORD transport state, and DV data is sent to the DV device for recording.
Abstract: By reducing the number of seek operations in an operation to play back a signal from a recording medium, the amount of data temporarily stored in a read buffer memory employed in a signal recording/playback apparatus is large enough to be output as a playback signal during a seek operation, allowing a continuous playback operation to be carried out. In order to reduce the number of seek operations, a signal is always recorded onto the recording medium in continuous free areas each having a size equal to or larger than a predetermined recording/playback time length which is typically set at 1 minute. If it is necessary to insert an additional signal having a length smaller than the predetermined recording/playback time length into a point of insertion in an area already occupied by an existing signal, a continuous free area with a size equal to or larger than the predetermined recording/playback time length is newly allocated to the additional signal.

Abstract: A TDM (Time Division Multiplexing)-based mobile communication system that switches a service type according to QoS (Quality of Service). The mobile communication system includes a base transceiver system (BTS) and a mobile station (MS) connected to the BTS. The BTS monitors whether a first service provided from the BTS to the MS is satisfied according to whether at least as much data as a predetermined transmission amount is transmitted to the MS. If the first service is dissatisfied, the BTS switches a service to a second service lower in QoS than the first service so that as much data as a transmission amount smaller than the predetermined transmission amount is transmitted to the MS.

Abstract: An audio recording apparatus provides a method of managing the video and audio navigation data for a rewritable recording medium, such as DVDs. The recording medium contains video and audio files in either originally recorded or user defined sequence. During recording, the apparatus prepares and updates start addresses for each navigation table containing such data as video and audio files. When reproducing information from the recording medium, the information tables which contain management data required for reproduction of the requested data are located directly by the start addresses. The data are read from the rewritable recording medium and reproduced in reference to the management data.
Abstract: When a requesting node (402) has routing capabilities and attempts to join a network and there are no association slots available, the requesting node (402) will send an association message to a potential root node (401). If the root node (401) has reached the maximum number of links, and has a non-routing capable node (403) associated with it, the root node (401) will send a message to the non-routing capable node (403), instructing it to disassociate and attempt to re-associate at a later time. A message is then sent to the requesting node (402) for it to associate with the root node (401).

Abstract: A set pattern image with no displacement is recorded onto recording paper. In this set pattern image, the centers of auxiliary patterns are displaced in an auxiliary scan direction off a referential straight line passing through the centers of primary patterns. The image forming apparatus causes the set pattern image to be read, measures the displacements of the auxiliary patterns in the auxiliary scan direction off the referential straight line, and compensates for the displacements, such as by adjusting writing timings in the auxiliary scan direction so that the displacements become zero.

Abstract: In DVB/MPEG transport streams, the PID specifies the assignment of the packets to the different elementary streams. For reproduction of the elementary streams, for instance by a set-top box with outputting via the screen of a television set, the packets of the desired program have to be selected from the transport stream by means of the PIDs using the demultiplexer. This requires in each case the evaluation of the Program Association Table and Program Map Table, and also that the PIDs of the elementary streams to be reproduced be known to the demultiplexer in the set-top box. If the set-top box has a digital interface via which parts of the transport data stream can be stored and reproduced later or via which an arbitrary transport data stream can be fed to the set-top box, the demultiplexer must firstly be reprogrammed with the PIDs.
Abstract: A system and method for performing seek or jump functions in a digitally stored audiovisual file are described. When the audiovisual file is recorded onto a storage medium, headers, which are distinct and separable from the audiovisual file datastream, are set in the audiovisual file in the storage medium. Each header contains a timestamp. When jumping/seeking, an estimated position for the desired timepoint on the storage medium is calculated by multiplying the storage unit per time unit rate by the desired timepoint. Then the system and method jumps to the estimated position, where the timestamp in the nearest header is checked to determine whether the time it indicates is close enough to the desired timepoint. If it is not, a new estimated position is calculated and the method repeats until either an iteration limit is reached or the estimated position is determined to be close enough to the desired timepoint.
Abstract: A spread code string containing a plurality of chips per interval in one horizontal interval or containing a plurality of chips per interval in one vertical interval is generated synchronously with the vertical sync signal at the generation star timing having a period of one vertical period or having a period of a plurality of vertical periods. The generated spread code string repeats over a plurality of horizontal intervals or a plurality of vertical intervals so that the chips having the same data are arranged in spatial direction of the vertical direction or the time axis direction in picture unit. The additional information is spectrally spread so that the chips having the same data are arranged at least in the interval in each 1 horizontal interval or in each 1 vertical interval of the above-mentioned repetition interval, and the generated spectral spread signal is superimposed on the video signal.
