  • Patent number: 9083545
Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for managing resources of a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) device based on a connection status of a control point. The method of managing resources of a controlled device includes: monitoring an invocation of an action representing a connection of a control point for a predetermined time; determining whether the control point is connected to the controlled device or not by considering whether the monitored action is invoked or not; and increasing available resources by selectively deactivating an application which is controlled by the control point according to the determination result. Accordingly, the resources of the UPnP device can be effectively managed.

  • Patent number: 7428632
Abstract: A branch prediction mechanism includes a branch prediction memory and an extended pattern cache. The extended pattern cache detects predetermined repeating patterns of branch outcomes and stores a plurality of compressed representations of these such that when they recur their termination can be predicted. This enables program loops which are longer in length than can be represented within a reasonably sized branch prediction memory to nevertheless be detected and have their loop ends predicted.

  • Patent number: 7415597
Abstract: A processor may include a scheduler configured to issue operations and a load store unit configured to execute memory operations issued by the scheduler. The load store unit is configured to store information identifying memory operations issued to the load store unit. In response to detection of incorrect data speculation for one of the issued memory operations, the load store unit is configured to replay at least one of the issued memory operations by providing an indication to the scheduler. The scheduler is configured to responsively reissue the memory operations identified by the load store unit.

  • Patent number: 7412593
Abstract: A processor for processing a program with commands, which has a mother program with a sub-program jump command and a sub-program, which is to be processed in response to the sub-program jump command. The processor has a command processor, which is adapted in the mother program upon occurrence of the sub-program jump command, to extract back-up information about data required in the mother program after processing the sub-program from the sub-program jump command, to back-up data required in the mother program after execution of the sub-program based on the back-up information, to extract a destination address from the sub-program jump command, which refers to the sub-program, and to effect the continuation of the processing of the program with the sub-program based on the destination address.

  • Patent number: 7406592
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media are provided for efficiently evaluation Boolean expressions. According to the method, the Boolean expression is expressed using pre-fix notation. Each element in the pre-fix expression is then parsed. For each first operand for a Boolean operation, the value of the operand is determined. This may include evaluating a GUID. When an operator and a second operand are encountered, a decision is made as to whether the second operand should be evaluated. The determination as to whether the second operand should be evaluated is made based upon the value of the first operand and the type of operator. If the second operand need not be evaluated, no evaluation is performed thereby saving time and memory space. The evaluation of the Boolean expression continues in this manner until the entire expression has been evaluated. If the Boolean expression is evaluated as true, the program module associated with the Boolean expression may be loaded.

  • Patent number: 7404065
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for flow optimization and prediction for vector streaming single instruction, multiple data (SIMD) extension (VSSE) memory operations is disclosed. The method comprises generating an optimized micro-operation (?op) flow for an instruction to operate on a vector if the instruction is predicted to be unmasked and unit-stride, the instruction to access elements in memory, and accessing via the optimized ?op flow two or more of the elements at the same time without determining masks of the two or more elements. Other embodiments are also described.

  • Patent number: 7383420
Abstract: A processor is operable to carry out a method that comprises accessing a first register based on a program instruction and obtaining a first register-out value, accessing a second register based on the first register-out value and obtaining a second register-out value, and storing the second register-out value into a third register based on the program instruction. The processor is further operable to carry out a method that comprises accessing a first register based on a program instruction and obtaining a first register-out value, accessing a second register based on the program instruction and obtaining a second register-out value, and storing the first register-out value into a third register based on the second register-out value.

  • Patent number: 7380104
Abstract: A method is provided for evaluating two or more instructions in an out of order issue queue during a particular cycle of the queue, to select an instruction for issue during the next following cycle. If an instruction was previously designated to issue during the particular cycle, one or more instructions in the queue are evaluated to determine if any of them are dependent on the designated instruction. For the evaluation, each instruction placed into the queue is accompanied by corresponding logic elements that provide destination to source compares for the instruction. In an embodiment comprising a method, the oldest ready instruction in the queue during a particular cycle is identified.

  • Patent number: 7376817
Abstract: In one embodiment, a processor comprises a prediction circuit and another circuit coupled to the prediction circuit. The prediction circuit is configured to predict whether or not a first load instruction will experience a partial store to load forward (PSTLF) event during execution. A PSTLF event occurs if a plurality of bytes, accessed responsive to the first load instruction during execution, include at least a first byte updated responsive to a previous uncommitted store operation and also include at least a second byte not updated responsive to the previous uncommitted store operation. Coupled to receive the first load instruction, the circuit is configured to generate one or more load operations responsive to the first load instruction. The load operations are to be executed in the processor to execute the first load instruction, and a number of the load operations is dependent on the prediction by the prediction circuit.

  • Patent number: 7373489
Abstract: An apparatus and method for floating point exception prediction and recovery. In one embodiment, a processor may include instruction fetch logic configured to issue a first instruction from one of a plurality of threads and to successively issue a second instruction from another one of the plurality of threads. The processor may also include floating-point arithmetic logic configured to execute a floating-point instruction issued by the instruction fetch logic from a given one of the plurality of threads, and further configured to determine whether the floating-point instruction generates an exception, and may further include exception prediction logic configured to predict whether the floating-point instruction will generate the exception, where the prediction occurs before the floating-point arithmetic logic determines whether the floating-point instruction generates the exception.

  • Patent number: 7370176
Abstract: A system and method for a high frequency stall design is presented. An issue unit includes a first instruction stage, a second instruction stage, and issue control logic. During a first instruction cycle, the issue unit performs two tasks, which are 1) the instructions located in the first instruction stage are moved to a second instruction stage, and 2) the issue control logic determines whether to issue or stall the instructions that are moved to the second instruction stage based upon their particular instruction attributes and the issue control unit's previous state. During a second instruction cycle that immediately follows the first instruction cycle, the second instruction stage's instructions are either issued or stalled based upon the issue control logic's decision from the first instruction cycle.

  • Patent number: 7293160
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system which facilitates eliminating a restart penalty when reissuing deferred instructions in a processor that supports speculative-execution. During a normal execution mode, the system issues instructions for execution in program order, wherein issuing the instructions involves decoding the instructions. Upon encountering an unresolved data dependency during execution of an instruction, the processor performs a checkpointing operation and executes subsequent instructions in an execute-ahead mode, wherein instructions that cannot be executed because of the unresolved data dependency are deferred, and wherein other non-deferred instructions are executed in program order. When an unresolved data dependency is resolved during execute-ahead mode, the processor begins to execute the deferred instructions in a deferred mode. In doing so, the processor initially issues deferred instructions, which have already been decoded, from a deferred queue.
