  • Patent number: 9782258
Abstract: Cardiomyopathy may be treated by distributing space-occupying agent within the myocardium in a pattern about one or more chambers of the heart, such that the space-modifying agent integrates into and thickens at least part of the cardiac wall about the chamber so as globally to reduce wall stress and stabilize or even reduce chamber size. Some patterns also cause a beneficial global reshaping of the chamber. These changes occur quickly and are sustainable, and have a rapid and sustainable therapeutic effect on cardiac function. Over time the relief of wall stress reduces oxygen consumption and promotes healing. Moreover, various long-term therapeutic effects may be realized depending on the properties of the space-occupying agent, including combinations with other therapeutic materials. Specific cardiac conditions treatable by these systems and methods include, for example, dilated cardiomyopathy (with or without overt aneurismal formations), congestive heart failure, and ventricular arrhythmias.

  • Patent number: 9782545
Abstract: Apparatus is described for administering a substance to a subject. A vial contains the substance and a stopper is disposed within the vial and is slidably coupled to the vial. A first threaded element is (a) rotatable with respect to the vial and (b) substantially immobile proximally with respect to the vial during rotation of the first threaded element. A second threaded element is threadedly coupled to the first threaded element. At least a distal end of the second threaded element is substantially non-rotatable with respect to the vial, and the distal end of the second threaded element defines a coupling portion that couples the second threaded element to the stopper. The first threaded element, by rotating, linearly advances the stopper and at least the distal end of the second threaded element toward a distal end of the vial. Other embodiments are also described.

  • Patent number: 9770558
Abstract: An injection device is described having a housing that receives a syringe having a boot that covers its needle. The syringe is biased by a return spring from an extended position to a retracted position. A drive spring advances the syringe from its retracted position to its extended position. A return spring restores the syringe to its refracted position. A releasable locking mechanism retains the syringe in its refracted position. A sleeve can be depressed to release the locking mechanism. A cap covers the sleeve, thus preventing the locking mechanism from being released. When the cap is removed, it takes the boot with it and no longer prevents the locking mechanism from being released. Then, the locking mechanism can be released and the injection cycle begun.

  • Patent number: 9764123
Abstract: A needle-less connector includes a housing having a drug solution flow path, and an elastic valve body. An end surface of the housing on a side of a tip end opening of the drug solution flow path constitutes a protruding support surface whose center section protrudes and slopes in a direction of a foot, and the elastic valve body is superposed onto the protruding support surface in a state of close contact therewith. Insertion of a male luer into a slit of the elastic valve body causes expanding deformation of the elastic valve body along the protruding support surface. A flexion section is formed on a sloped surface of the protruding support surface, and the sloped surface has different tilt angles on a foot section side and on a crest section side of the flexion section.

  • Patent number: 9750925
Abstract: A ported catheter adapter having a combined blood control valve and port valve, wherein the combined valve comprises one or more vents that permit the passage of air and prevent the passage of fluids. The one or more vents are located on the outer surface of the valve so as to avoid being overlapped with the pathway of the side port. As such, fluid communication between the side port and the vents is prevented. Various venting configurations are provided. The invention further includes a valve actuator that is advanced through a slit in the membrane of the valve to provide a pathway for fluid to bypass the valve.
