Patent number: 6912782Abstract: A multi-axial pivoting liner within the combustion system of a turbine engine allows the system to work with minimum thermal interference, especially during system operation at transient conditions, by allowing the liner to pivot and slide about its centerline and relative to the turbine scroll. The pivoting liner has the ability to control and minimize air leakage from part to part, for example, from the liner to the turbine scroll, during various operating conditions. Additionally, the liner provides for easy assembly with no flow path steps. Finally, the pivoting liner tolerates thermal and mechanical stresses and minimizes thermal wear.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2003Date of Patent: July 5, 2005Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Ly D. Patent number: 6817095Abstract: A partial assembly process for a vane-type cam phaser. A pulley/sprocket is loaded onto a first camshaft-shaped fixture with a cam nose extending beyond the length of an actual cam nose such that a phaser rotor containing a locking bolt, when mounted onto the cam nose, is displaced axially from the pulley/sprocket by an amount sufficient to set the axial engagement of the bolt upon final assembly. A stator is loaded onto the pulley/sprocket and is rotated clockwise until it contacts the rotor, thereby removing all rotational and radial lash from the system. One or more axial holes are bored through the pulley/sprocket and stator and a locking pin such as a roll pin is inserted to permanently pin the stator to the pulley/sprocket.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2003Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Emily E. Patent number: 6817096Abstract: A method of manufacturing a heat pipe construction includes first providing a tubular pipe with an open end. A thermally conductive material, such as a metallic material or a filled polymer composite material is overmolded over or cast around the tubular pipe. Additional heat dissipating elements, such as insert molded pins, may be provided in the overmolded or cast material to enhance thermal conductivity of the heat sink assembly. The tubular pipe is then filled with heat pipe media, such as water or ammonia, and then immediately sealed therein to effectively form an embedded heat pipe within a thermally conductive cast or overmolded structure. With the method of the present invention, an heat pipes can be overmolded with or cast into other heat dissipating material structure to improve overall performance of the heat pipe without damaging the heat pipe.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2001Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Cool Options, Inc.Inventor: Kevin A. Patent number: 6817100Abstract: A steering wheel having partially applied wooden outer covers, which can be produced without having the wooden outer covers scratched, and the like, and can be produced with high working efficiency, and a method for manufacturing the steering wheel are provided. Raw materials, from which wood members are formed, are attached at a rim portion of a core metal, and cores are formed in this state. Thereafter, the wood members are shaped from the raw materials. Further, resin pieces are attached in spaces between the wood members and the cores to limit displacement of the wood members. Then, the cores and the resin pieces are covered with covering portions. As described above, spaces are formed, and the cores are formed in a state in which the raw materials of the wood members are attached.
