  • Patent number: 7275671
Abstract: A pill splitter splits a pill in quarters along a major axis and a minor axis The pill splitter has a lower body, and an upper body, integrally affixed to the lower body. A rotating bed receptacle is rotatingly affixed in the pill splitter, and contains a bed substantially conforming to the pill shape. A membrane, disposed below the bed, contains a cruciate cutout into which are formed a major axis slit and a minor axis slit. A long, thin cutting blade is disposed below and in proximity to the bed receptacle. In use the, receptacle is rotated to a position so that the cutting blade is disposed beneath the one axis slit and beneath the corresponding axis of the pill. A blow struck to a plunger aligned with the blade by plunger slots and guides cuts the pill along the chosen axis.

  • Patent number: 7216573
Abstract: A portable shear comprises at least two shear blades. The shear blades are in close proximity with one another, and each shear blade has a cut-out. A force apparatus applies a force to at least one of two blades such that the blades move relative to each other. In a first position the cut-outs of each blade are substantially aligned such that a workpiece having a cross-section substantially identical to a portion of the cut-out can rest simultaneously within the cut-outs of each blade. In a second position the cut-outs of each blade are not substantially aligned such that a workpiece can be split when the blades move from the first position to the second position.

  • Patent number: 7200940
Abstract: A tool for burring the surface of a material. The tool has two sets of oppositely facing toothed blades which are made to move towards each other when the tool is pressed against a surface. Each tooth planes a shallow groove into the surface which results in hook-like burrs or planings rising from each groove. Limiters on the blade stroke ensure that the raised burr is not severed. A spring returns the blades to their start position. The resulting surface therefore has a plurality of shallow, non-piercing stopped grooves with a like plurality of hook-like burrs. Such a modified surface provides increased surface area for electrochemical activity, and a mechanical grip to materials bonded thereto. The tool uses replaceable blade packs which snap into a permanent tool housing. The tool may be operated with a simple hammer blow or it may be rapidly driven into large or small areas of a surface by a manual and/or computer directed punch press.

  • Patent number: 7182008
Abstract: A decurl apparatus includes a heating device to heat an image recording carrier web at a constant temperature, which exceeds the glass transition temperature of a support for a constant time period; and a cooling device for subsequent cooling of the image recording carrier web to a temperature equal to or lower than the glass transition temperature, while the image recording carrier web maintains a predetermined shape. The heating device includes an induction-heated heating roller and holding rollers arranged at arbitrary angular positions with respect to the outer circumference of the heating roller. As a result, the image recording carrier web is reliably decurled by a simple construction without being influenced by a transfer velocity or the like.

  • Patent number: 7137539
Abstract: An apparatus and method of converting a web of indefinite length into a plurality of web portions by slitting the web at a transverse point prior to processing the web portions into a plurality of use supply forms (such as rolls), wherein the plurality of web portions are separated by a two-stage process. A first stage of the process is a partial separation operation that almost entirely separates the web portions, but leaves the web portions connected, such as by a slitting operation that leaves a series of connected zones. The second stage includes the complete separation, such as by breaking of the connected zones. The complete separation of the web portions preferably occurs near the station at which the use supply forms are created, such as a winding station. Thus, the web portions, after substantial separation at the first stage can be handled (for example, guided and tensioned) as if the plurality of web portions were a full width web.
