Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for compensating dispersion of a beam separator in a single-beam or multi-beam apparatus. Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a dispersion device comprising an electrostatic deflector and a magnetic deflector configured to induce a beam dispersion set to cancel the dispersion generated by the beam separator. The combination of the electrostatic deflector and the magnetic deflector can be used to keep the deflection angle due to the dispersion device unchanged when the induced beam dispersion is changed to compensate for a change in the dispersion generated by the beam separator. In some embodiments, the deflection angle due to the dispersion device can be controlled to be zero and there is no change in primary beam axis due to the dispersion device.
Abstract: A radiographic imaging device includes a radiation detection element including plural same sized hexagonal shaped pixels that detect radiation and are arrayed in a honeycomb pattern, and a pixel density conversion section that performs interpolation processing such that first image data obtained from the radiation detection element is converted into second image data representing an image in which plural pixels are arrayed in a square grid pattern, wherein when d1max denotes the length of the longest diagonal of the hexagonal shaped pixels, S1 denotes the surface area of the hexagonal shaped pixels, and d2max denotes the length of the diagonals of the square grid of the second image data, d1max is equal to or greater than d2max, and d2max is equal to or greater than the value of the square root of S1.
Abstract: A device and associated method are disclosed for interfacing an ion trap to a pulsed mass analyzer (such as a time-of-flight analyzer) in a mass spectrometer. The device includes a plurality of separate confinement cells and structures for directing ions into a selected one of the confinement cells. Ions are ejected from the ion trap in a series of temporally successive ion packets. Each ion packet (which may consist of ions of like mass-to-charge ratio), is received by the ion interface device, fragmented to form product ions, and then stored and cooled in the selected confinement cell. Storage and cooling of the ion packet occurs concurrently with the receipt and storage of at least one later-ejected ion packet. After a predetermined cooling period, the ion packet is released to the mass analyzer for acquisition of a mass spectrum.
Abstract: A tandem instrument using a variable frequency pulsed ionization source and two separation techniques, low (IMS) and high (FAIMS) field mobility is provided. The analytical stage features a field driven FAIMS cell embedded on-axis within the IMS drift tube. The FAIMS cell includes two parallel grids of approximately the same diameter as the IMS rings and can be placed anywhere along the drift tube and biased according to their location in the voltage divider ladder to create the same IMS field. The spacing between the grids constitutes the analytical gap where ions are subject, in addition to the drift field, to the asymmetric dispersive field of the FAIMS. The oscillatory motion performed during the high and low voltages of the asymmetric waveform separates the ions according to the difference in their mobilities.
