Abstract: A cascading bed retorting process and apparatus in which cold raw crushed shale enters at the middle of a retort column into a mixer stage where it is rapidly mixed with hot recycled shale and thereby heated to pyrolysis temperature. The heated mixture then passes through a pyrolyzer stage where it resides for a sufficient time for complete pyrolysis to occur. The spent shale from the pyrolyzer is recirculated through a burner stage where the residual char is burned to heat the shale which then enters the mixer stage.

Abstract: A construction for the refractory lining member of a coke oven door is provided. The coke oven door lining includes a generally "U"-shaped frame with a castable refractory element formed therein. The frame is provided with a base portion and first and second legs which extend from the base. A series of diagonal cross-members are provided to be affixed at one end to the ends of the legs and at the other end to the central region of the base portion. The refractory member is formed from a castable refractory material and is designed to extend beyond the ends of the legs of the frame. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the refractory member consists of a two-layer system to provide greater insulation.
Abstract: Apparatus for producing a hollow molded synthetic resin article includes a split mold having an inner molding surface with a contour conforming to the configuration of the desired article, a space between the opposing mold members of the split mold for receiving a heated parison of a thermoplastic synthetic resin in the form of a tube or two parallel-laid sheets, vacuum suction holes provided in the molding surface and the parting surfaces of the split mold, means for opening and closing the split mold, means for applying negative pressure to the vacuum suction holes, and means for blowing heated compressed air against the inside surface of that portion of the parison which corresponds to the parting surfaces in the direction facing the parting surfaces. The attachment of the parison to the parting surfaces is thereby facilitated.
Abstract: An assembly for supplying gas-conveyed solid fuel to the interior of a double wall gasification vessel includes a conduit (4) for conducting the fuel-gas mixture across the annular region (16) formed between the inner (3) and outer (2) vessel walls. A flexible coupling (11) is provided at one end of the conduit proximate the penetration of the fuel-gas stream across the vessel pressure boundary. An expansion joint (14), disposed about the conduit (4) and sealed to the inner vessel wall (3) conducts secondary gas into the inner vessel across the annular region (16) and prevents leakage of corrosive gases from the inner vessel interior.
