  • Patent number: 4501550
Abstract: This invention relates to cap means for preventing resin from remaining in a mold of a runnerless injection molding apparatus. The cap means is of a frusto-conical profile and incorporated in a space formed adjacent to a front end of a heating cylinder. Further, the cap means is provided with an opening from which a pointed tip member of the heating cylinder can project. The invention aims at removing resin scorching, its thermal decomposition, inconveniences of color or material exchange or the like.

  • Patent number: 4501539
Abstract: The drain openings in movable and fixed platens in a press unit are wider than the largest praticle in a slurry to be dewatered and are formed by arcuate ribs dimensioned to resist the transverse forces developed as the granular particles from bridges across the slotted drain openings in rendom order. Liquid expressed through the movable platen is directed radially outward through a subplaten, passes back through the clearance between the piston carrying the movable platen and the mold wall and is discharged through a sealing and collecting ring having a series of annular grooves which communicate with longitudinal radially extending slots having longitudinal bores at the radial extremity thereof which direct the liquid to an annular passage for discharge.

  • Patent number: 4487564
Abstract: A split-mold safety lock for preventing unintended separation of mold components during lifting and manipulation thereof. The invention employs a split ring capable of being swiveled in a circle of 360.degree. and being pivoted in an arc of 180.degree. around a perpendicular axis there in a base. A safety lock is associated with the ring base for permitting separation of the molds for a molding operation and to automatically assume a locked configuration upon lifting. The split-mold lock is capable of being utilized on multiple parting lines of a plurality of mold parts.

  • Patent number: 4458875
Abstract: The apparatus consists of a vessel that is transparent to microwaves, an inner coating of material that is heated by microwaves and a coating inside that that will reflect microwaves. In use the user allows his mold substance to set in the ordinary way. When he desires to release his moldable from the molded substance he applies microwaves to the outside of the vessel. The waves pass through the outer transparent wall and heat the inner coating. Conductivity of heat causes the surface of the molded object to be heated, to liquefy and release from the mold. The innermost layer of reflective substance prevents the microwaves from penetrating into the molded object and heating the whole molded object. What is new is an apparatus that will permit the user to quickly and conveniently release a molded object from a mold without any risk that he will heat and destroy portions of the molded object.

  • Patent number: 4457684
Abstract: A press system that provides rapid advance of one platen on a movable crosshead through the use of programmed hydraulic controls and is specifically adapted for use with sheet molding compound (SMC) presses. Rapid locking or latching of the crosshead and the platen it carries is achieved through the use of hydraulically operated clamping and release cylinders. The lower platen is supported on hydrostatic bearings permitting the platen to move and at the same time parallelism of the mold halves is maintained by swiveling molding power cylinders. Separate push-back cylinders are used to separate the mold through a short load path so that when the mold "breaks away" there is very little springback to minimize any part breakage during mold stripping. The lower platen also includes a mounting arrangement that provides the advantages of a rolling bolster or lower platen with a minimum of mounting structure.

  • Patent number: 4456445
Abstract: In a die, punch and core rod assembly for a powder compacting press wherein the core rod or rods remain stationary while the punch or punches are reciprocable relative to the die, the invention provides individual longitudinal position adjustment for the core rods by clamping the end of the core rods in a collet-like threaded member such as a slotted set screw threading in a threaded bore in a core rod support member. The core rod support member is preferably in the form of a pair of plates one bolted below the other. The end of each core rod is immobilized in its adjusted position by being disposed in an axial bore in the collet-like threaded member and by being clamped between the sidewalls of a longitudinal slot extending part of the length of the set screw, as a result of the tendency of the slot to close when the set screw is driven through the lower plate with its tapered end engaged with a tapered surface at the end of an aligned bore in the upper plate.

  • Patent number: 4452576
Abstract: A tire press and loader includes a tire chuck supporting, horizontal elevator frame which is vertically movable and maintained horizontal under normal operating conditions by drives connected to respective opposite ends of the frame. The loader also includes a safety device operative to cause canting of the frame from such horizontal position upon failure of one of the drives and a control responsive to such canting to render the loader drives inoperative and further to interrupt automatic operation of the press until the fault causing such failure is corrected. The safety device includes holding devices at opposite ends of the horizontal frame which yield to downward driving movement of such ends by respective drives. The holding devices are characterized by flexible elements trained over sprockets connected by slip clutches to a common safety shaft which may rotate in only one direction corresponding to upward movement of the horizontal frame by reason of a one-way clutch or the like.
