  • Patent number: 4184906
Abstract: Laminated slabs superficially bonded together are prepared by autoclaving a vertically compressed stack including a plurality of the sheets when initially set but not finally cured and having a polyethylene or like plastic film-like layer sandwiched between each pair of the sheet surfaces to be bonded together. A layer of material other than asbestos-cement may be sandwiched between the asbestos-cement sheets, for example, metal foil, to make the slab moisture-impervious or an array of filaments or wire-mesh material as reinforcement may be used.

  • Patent number: 4180608
Abstract: A process is described for the manufacture of a void-free multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB). The process includes the steps of, first, laminating one or both sides of a PCB provided with circuitry details, to a cast thermosetting resin layer comprising essentially a B-staged, resin system solid at room temperatures but having a resin flow, under standard curing conditions, greater than a prepreg layer containing glass cloth impregnated by the B-staged resin system. The initial laminating step proceeds at temperatures and/or times substantially below curing conditions to form a prefilled PCB laminate wherein said cast thermosetting resin layer remains B-staged and which is very low in voids. Secondly, one or more of the prefilled PCB laminates are assembled between prepreg layers, each prepreg layer comprising glass cloth impregnated by a second B-staged thermosetting resin compatible with, or the same as, said B-staged thermosetting resin of said cast thermosetting resin layer.

  • Patent number: 4174238
Abstract: A thermoplastic pharmaceutical solution container includes a neck portion having at least one port through the neck portion. A thermoplastic port protector or closure covers the port and defines a frangible section. The closure has a length to diameter ratio providing good mechanical advantage leverage to rupture the frangible section when the closure is pushed sideways. A seal is formed with the closure by forcing a die heated above the melting point of the plastic material into the neck portion, removing a portion of the port protector and forming a depression. The frangible section is formed in the vertical side wall of the depression.

  • Patent number: 4173684
Abstract: A novel metal modified novolak resin is prepared. The metal modified novolak resin is an electron acceptor and is further characterized by its compatability with the surface properties of a paper substrate. The metal modified novolak resin comprises a reaction product of a novolak resin and a metal salt. The novolak resin is a reaction product of a mixture containing a para-substituted phenol selected from the group consisting of paraalkylphenols having alkyl groups of about 1 to about 12 carbon atoms, paraphenylphenol and mixtures thereof, salicylic acid and formaldehyde. The novel metal modified novolak resin is prepared by heating a mixture containing one or more para-substituted phenols, salicylic acid, formaldehyde and an acid catalyst for a period of time sufficient to substantially completely react the phenols, salicylic acid and formaldehyde to form a melted novolak resin. The melted novolak resin is mixed with a zinc salt in a inert atmosphere to form the metal modified novolak resin.

  • Patent number: 4167435
Abstract: A sealing apparatus for joining container parts of a plastic-lightweight al foil laminate by heat and pressure applied to the laminates when the respective plastic layers are pressed into contact uses a toggle linkage and a yieldable buffer, with a hydraulic actuator to drive the toggle linkage to close a pair of sealing heads together. The toggle linkage permits rapid build-up of pressure to a value predetermined by the construction of the buffer, after which the buffer yields to hold the sealing pressure. The duration of the build-up to sealing pressure comprises no more than 20% of the time interval between initiation of pressure build-up and the start of pressure drop-off at the end of the sealing process.
