  • Patent number: 4351463
Abstract: Spool changing apparatus for alternately pulling web-shaped packaging material from two supply spools and feeding the material sequentially to a pair of engraving rollers, a pair of conveying rollers, and a cutting device along a conveying track. An auxiliary device is provided to separate the embossing rollers as a new supply of packaging material is fed therethrough. The material is thus initially conveyed without embossing, thereby avoiding coiling of the new length of packaging material at the outlet side of the embossing rollers.

  • Patent number: 4350275
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the speed of a traveling web being driven along a path by means of first and second drive rollers located at spaced positions along the path. An emitter device is provided for directing a radiation signal at the traveling web at a predetermined location along the path between the first and second drive rollers so as to be reflected thereby, and a detector device is provided for detecting the reflected radiation signal and for generating a position indication signal indicative of the position of the detector relative to the traveling web at the predetermined location. In response to the position indication signal, the detector device is caused to move so as to maintain a predetermined position with respect to the traveling web at the predetermined location.

  • Patent number: 4349163
Abstract: A roll of film is formed without a spool or core and the innermost end of the roll of film is formed into a closed loop of predetermined diameter. In a film viewing device, in which film is normally transported from a supply shaft to a take-up shaft, the supply shaft is provided with an adaptor which is mounted thereon for rotation therewith and is resiliently biased to be radially expandable from a diameter smaller than to a diameter larger than the predefined diameter. The roll film structure is mounted on the adaptor and the resilient biasing of the adaptor then forces it radially outward against the closed loop and securely holds the roll film for take-up.

  • Patent number: 4347961
Abstract: A rotary power transfer component incorporated in the rotary to reciprocating motion conversion drive mechanism which operates the reciprocating feeder of a multiple slide machine increases the time available to the forming operation by correspondingly decreasing the feed time of the wire or ribbon stock during each cycle. The rotary power transfer component comprises a drive wheel and crank wheel mounted for respective eccentric rotation. The drive wheel, which is driven at a uniform rate of rotation synchronized to the forming operation of the machine, has an eccentric fixed pin which engages a radial slot in the crank wheel to thereby impart to the latter a synchronized cycle with varying speed of rotation within the cycle to be converted to a rapid advance feed stroke and a slow return stroke for the reciprocating drive of the feeder during which return stroke the forming operations are performed.

  • Patent number: 4346856
Abstract: Device for the automatic rewinding of material delivered in sheets in heliographic and similar machines, particularly for heliographic machines for textile industries, comprising a winding member consisting of a hollow cylindrical casing with a C-shaped cross section, within which is rotatably mounted a shaft equipped with a plurality of radial tabs arranged at regular intervals along its entire length. The outer edge of the hollow casing and the tabs define a slot into which the leading edge of the sheet to be rewound around the hollow casing is initially inserted. The rotation of the shaft first causes the leading edge of the sheet to remain firmly gripped between the tabs and the edge of the hollow casing, and then pulls the hollow casing round, thus making the sheet of material wind around the latter.

  • Patent number: 4343440
Abstract: An auxiliary device on devices for winding a weblike material into rolls, the quality of winding being distinctly improved, and a process for winding weblike material into rolls. In addition to the known first contact (feed) roll, the device also has a second, soft-surface contact roll the pressure of application of which can be precisely adjusted. The pressure of application of the second contact roll is transmitted by a pneumatic cylinder or a pneumatic pressure control valve, lever arms. As the diameter of the roll increases, the movement of the contact roll or the lever arms is used to generate a pulse via a contact device, so that the position of the first contact roll in relation to the roll being formed, i.e., the gap is kept constant by way of an auxiliary drive. The device and the process according to invention are particularly well suited for winding pressure-sensitive web materials into rolls.

  • Patent number: 4341335
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling tension in a longitudinally moving web between fixed material feeding points while maintaining the length of the path of web movement between said fixed points substantially constant. Two axially fixed, web-feeding rollers are positively driven from a common drive motor. One roller is driven at a variable speed through a shaft-mounted transmission unit having a variable pitch pulley spaced from the axis of rotation of the roller shaft and connected to the motor by a flexible belt. Fluid piston means provides a constant force on the transmission unit in a direction about the roller shaft axis to impose a constant torque on the variable speed roller and to move the variable pitch pulley to increase or decrease the speed of the roller, thereby maintaining a constant imposed tension on the material in its path of movement between the two rollers.
