Abstract: The present invention is a method for the production of methacrylic type resin molded items which produces methacrylic type resin molded items having excellent mar resistance, weather resistance, heat resistance and the like bycontacting(A) a preliminary reaction product obtained by polymerizing a composition composed of a hydrolyzate of an alkoxysilane having a (meth)acryloxy group and silica gel to a reaction ratio of 15 to 60, with(B) a base molding material composed of a (meth)acrylic type partially crosslinked gel polymer obtained by mixing (i) a raw resin material selected from the group consisting of an alkyl methacrylate monomer, mixtures of .alpha., .beta.
Abstract: Polymers are prepared from olefinically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous medium using a free radical initiator system which is soluble in this medium and consists of an oxidizing agent, a reducing agent and an iron salt, by a process in which a corresponding redox initiator system which contains a vanadium salt is used in addition to this iron-containing redox initiator system, and the content of olefinically unsaturated residual monomers in aqueous polymer mixtures or solutions is reduced by this process.

Abstract: A method for altering a macroporous cross-linked hydrophobic copolymeric lattice produced by precipitation polymerization in a solvent of at least one monounsaturated ester monomer and at least one polyunsaturated ester monomer soluble therein, in order to render the hydrophobic copolymeric lattice hydrophilic. The method involves saponifying the hydrophobic copolymeric lattice by reacting the surface of the hydrophobic copolymeric lattice with an aqueous alkali. The surface can also be rendered hydrophilic by polymerizing an acrylate monomer onto the lattice in order to form a surface containing carboxylic acid sites. The carboxylic acid sites formed on the surface of the lattice are converted to carboxylate anions.
