  • Patent number: 6403518
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a supported catalyst composition resulting from contact of at least one transition metal catalyst precursor, such as a metallocene catalyst, and a support activator composition resulting from contact of a catalyst support (formed by reaction of a carrier, for example, an inorganic oxide (e.g., silica) and an organo halide such as bromo pentaflurobenzene in the presence of base) and a catalytic activator such as dimethylanilinium tetrakis (pentafluorophenyl) borate, and methods for making the same.

  • Patent number: 6388114
Abstract: The (polyfluoroaryl)fluoroanions of aluminum, gallium, and indium are novel weakly coordinating anions which are highly fluorinated. (Polyfluoroaryl)fluoroanions of one such type contain at least one ring substituent other than fluorine. These (polyfluoroaryl)fluoroanions of aluminum, gallium, and indium have greater solubility in organic solvents, or have a coordinative ability essentially equal to or less than that of the corresponding (polyfluoroaryl)fluoroanion of aluminum, gallium, or indium in which the substituent is replaced by fluorine. Another type of new (polyfluoroaryl)fluoroanion of aluminum, gallium, and indium have 1-3 perfluorinated fused ring groups and 2-0 perfluorophenyl groups.

  • Patent number: 5895771
Abstract: Catalyst compositions for the polymerization of an olefin are disclosed which comprise a neutral metallocene and, as the ionizing agent an anionic aluminum-containing complex which is a fluorinated alkoxy and/or aryloxy aluminate. The fluorinated alkoxy aluminate can be of the formula A.sup.+ (Al(OR).sub.4).sup.-, where A.sup.+ is a cation capable of reacting with the neutral metallocene to produce a cationic metallocene and a non-reacting neutral species and R is a fluorinated alkyl and/or aryl group, with a representative group for A.sup.+ being (C.sub.6 H.sub.5).sub.3 C.sup.+ and with the representative fluorinated alkoxy aluminates including ?Al(OC(Ph)(CF.sub.3).sub.2).sub.4 !.sup.-, where Ph is phenyl, and ?Al(OC(CH.sub.3)(CF.sub.3).sub.2).sub.4 !.sup.-.
