Abstract: A low power loss Mn-Zn ferrite consists essentially of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, MnO and ZnO at a given mole ratio and contains given amounts of SiO.sub.2, CaO, niobium oxide and titanium oxide or antimony oxide as trace additives. This ferrite is suitable as a transformer material for switched mode power supply.
Abstract: A process for preparing X-ray intensifying M' monoclinic tantalate phosphors by firing precursor oxides in a novel flux mixture of alkali metal sulfate/alkali metal or alkaline earth chloride/alkali metal metasilicate. Tantalate phosphors made in this manner have improved X-ray to light conversion efficiency. X-ray intensifying screens made from these phosphors have improved speed and can be used with good results with a plurality of X-ray film elements.
Abstract: A doubly activated yttriuim aluminum garnet (YAG) phosphor, activated with both europium and chromium, is provided. The concentration of Eu ranges from about 1 to 5 at %, while the concentration of Cr ranges from about 0.1 to 1 at %. The YAG:Eu,Cr phosphor has a line spectrum which more closely matches the spectral sensitivity of amorphous silicon liquid crystal light valves thereby, providing more efficient use of the available energy.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the preparation of a small particle size borate lamp phosphor by preparing a dispersed suspension containing particles of a borate lamp phosphor precursor, adding a sufficient amount of boric acid to the dispersed suspension to provide for the mutual isolation of the borate lamp phosphor precursor particles in the boric acid, drying the mixture under conditions suitable for retaining the precursor as a dispersed phase in a matrix of boric acid, communicating the dried mixture, firing the comminuted mixture under conditions suitable for converting the precursor to a small particle size borate lamp phosphor product in a matrix of boric oxide while maintaining the mutual isolation of the product particles, and contacting the resulting mixture with water to solubilize substantially all of the boric oxide and separate the small particle size borate lamp phosphor product.
Abstract: An x-ray intensifying screen is disclosed containing magnesium tantalum niobium oxide as a phosphor in an ordered corundum crystalline form. In addition, small amounts of at least one alkali metal other than lithium can be present. Potassium, rubidium and cesium are each capable of increasing luminescence. The x-ray intensifying screens are useful in radiographic applications where it is important to reduce subject exposure to x-rays and also to create clear, sharp images.
