Abstract: A system and method for generating a computer-aided rail yard plan for the movement of plural railcars through a rail yard, the rail yard having tracks that are used as receiving tracks, classification tracks and departure tracks and the plural railcars arriving on inbound trains and departing on outbound trains, the plural railcars required to undergo a sequence of tasks to move through the rail yard, the yard plan providing (a) a schedule for receiving trains, (b) a schedule for inspecting cars on receiving tracks, (c) a schedule for humping cars from receiving tracks into classification tracks, (d) a schedule for pulling trains onto departure tracks, (e) a schedule for testing trains, and (f) a schedule for departing trains.

Abstract: A navigation system and method for resolving discrepancies between a reported position and route data is presented. Based on a reported position, the navigation system identifies prospective road segments within a radius of the reported position. For each road segment, the navigation system generates a series of scores according to various attributes, including the current heading, current speed, proximity of reported location to the prospective road, and the like. Historical scores are also generated based on historical information, i.e., previous navigation device locations. Scores are normalized such that they can be compared, and optionally weighted according to particular implementation details. After scores have been generated for each prospective road, the prospective road, and its determined location, with the best score is selected as the resolved, actual location.

Abstract: The output torque of an in-vehicle engine is controlled based on the larger one of a pedal torque set by a pedal torque setting section in accordance with an operation amount of an accelerator pedal and a cruise torque for cruise control set by a cruise torque setting section. At the time of starting the cruise control, an initial value of the cruise torque is set by an initial value setting section as the smaller one of the torque required for traveling a vehicle at a constant speed of a target vehicle speed and the pedal torque.

Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with the present invention provide a host based positioning system. The host based positioning system includes a tracker hardware interface that connects to a dedicated hardware space vehicle tracker. The tracker hardware interface receives positioning information from the space vehicle tracker. The host based positioning system also includes a memory that includes a GPS library having a user interface, a tracker interface, and an operating system interface. A processor runs functions provided by the interfaces.

Abstract: A method for providing a velocity profile for a subsurface region that includes the reflective interfaces, the method comprising the steps of: providing a set of data comprising signals transmitted by a transmitter and collected at a receiver, wherein the data include a primary signal that has been reflected off of one of the reflective interfaces and a multiply-reflected signal that has been reflected off of at least two of the reflective interfaces, providing a velocity model for the subsurface region, using the velocity model and the primary signal to construct a first image of the subsurface region, using the velocity model and the multiply-reflected signal to construct a second image of the subsurface region, determining a measure of match between the first and second images, adjusting the velocity model based on this measure, and repeating the steps until the measure of match attains a desired level.

Abstract: A method of processing seismic data comprises processing data representative of the acceleration wavefield so as to obtain information about the earth's subsurface direct from the seismic data representative of the acceleration wavefield. In conventional techniques for processing seismic data representative of the acceleration wavefield the data are transformed to the velocity domain at an early stage in the processing. The invention enables the transform step to be eliminated, thereby simplifying the processing and eliminating the risk that the transform might degrade the data. Furthermore, the increased sensitivity at high frequencies of a typical acceleration sensor compensates for the low-pass filter effect of the earth.
Abstract: There is provided herein a system and method for the imaging and monitoring of hydrocarbon reservoirs and other subsurface features preferably using seabed or surface sensors in conjunction with one or more downhole sensors. In one preferred embodiment, recordings will be simultaneously made using both seabed and downhole receivers. The energy source might be either a controlled seismic source or ambient noise. In one embodiment, the data will be used to compute a virtual VSP, checkshot, or similar survey by cross correlating a trace recorded at the surface with a trace recorded at depth. In another embodiment, the surface and well sensors will be permanently emplaced and repeated recordings over time will be used to form a time-varying (4-D) image of the subsurface.
