  • Patent number: 3952415
Abstract: In the making of fixed dental prothesis, a model is employed, which is an accurate replica of the patient's teeth and gums. For reinforcement, the model is fixed to a base. A model comprises a replica of the teeth remaining in the patient's mouth and a replica of teeth to be prepared by restorative dentistry. For preparing the teeth by restorative dental techniques, a die is used. It is desired that the die be removed from and replaced in the model with facility, be indexed accurately relative to the model, and have stability while positioned in the model against forces applied in the practice of prothesis, and also be removable from the base on which the model is secured. Toward this end, a pin is fixed in the die having a locating leg and an indexing leg interconnected by an arcuate portion of the pin. The legs extend outwardly from the die to be received by the base to which the model is secured.

  • Patent number: 3949478
Abstract: Orthodontic brackets are fitted to teeth to be treated by making a first positive jaw model from which the model teeth are replaceably removable. The model teeth are subsequently placed into a second jaw model containing pliable material which enables the teeth to be displaced into a desired predetermined orientation, which is the orientation ultimately desired for the teeth to be treated. With the model teeth in this orientation, brackets are fitted to the model teeth and utilizing procedures which involve making a negative mold of the model teeth with the attached brackets, the brackets are ultimately attached to the teeth to be treated so that an orthodontic alignment wire may be applied to the teeth by engagement with the attached brackets.Apparatus for attaching the brackets to the model teeth includes a support structure for holding a jaw model containing the teeth and a curved alignment table extending at least partially about the jaw holder.

  • Patent number: 3947965
Abstract: A pressurized dental handpiece has a housing in which a shaft is journalled and from which the shaft projects to support a dental tool. A high speed air turbine runner is on the shaft and is propelled by air under superatmospheric pressure brought to a nozzle for the runner through a conduit. A tubular extension of the housing surrounds the conduit and is in communication with the housing to serve as the turbine exhaust duct to the atmosphere. An adjustable valve regulates the spent exhaust air flowing from the extension to maintain a superatmospheric pressure in the extension. Some spent air is allowed to flow from the extension around the discharge of a water tube passing through the extension and the housing in the direction of the projecting shaft and dental tool.

  • Patent number: 3934347
Abstract: A dental implant includes a porous ceramic cup or ring filled with silicone rubber which supports an artificial tooth or other prosthetic device such as a denture. The jawbone grows into the porous ceramic to hold the implant firmly in place. The silicone rubber cushions the jawbone from shock caused by multidirectional masticatory forces. A fibrous matting is partially embedded into the upper periphery of the silicone rubber that extends from the ceramic cup or ring. Gingival tissue becomes attached to the matting to form a seal that precludes bacteria from invading and infecting the implant area. In another embodiment, the implant includes a metal sleeve completely filled with and surrounded by silicone rubber. Fibrous matting is partially embedded into the surface of the silicone rubber. Both the jawbone and the gingival tissue adhere to the matting to hold the implant firmly in place and to prevent bacterial invasion.
