    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system for screening the content of the air proximate to a target for the presence of one or more illicit substances by using a chemical detector, a metal detector and a radiation detector all houses within a portable detection unit that may be carried by hand to detect threat substances on a target. The system also comprises a support module that is coupled either wirelessly or though a conduit to the portable detection unit to support the operations of the portable detection unit by proving processing and analysis of the detected results and power. The system also comprises a vacuum source for drawing air proximate to the target into the portable detection unit for vaporization and analysis. The vacuum source may be within the support module and drawing air through a hose in the conduit, or may be within the portable detection unit itself.

The controller sends an add liquid signal if temperature sensed by the first temperature sensor is substantially different at the first and second times and if temperature sensed by the second temperature sensor is substantially different at the first and second times.     Abstract: The pipeline leak detector travels through a pipeline passively due to the flow of liquid through the pipeline. The device includes leading and trailing rings shaped to produce hydrodynamic resistance in order for the device to be carried through the pipeline. Wheels are provided about each ring, with at least one wheel having an odometer to measure distance traveled through the pipe. The rings are joined by a plurality of axially oriented connecting rods. A plurality of sensing elements extend between the rings. Each sensing element has a thin laminate of a piezoelectric film sandwiched between two electrically conductive layers, with an electrically insulating coating on the outside of each conductive layer. One of the rings includes microelectronic circuitry for data acquisition and storage.

    Abstract: An air sampler device has a top plate and a bottom plate, and receives a Petri dish between the top plate and the bottom plate. The top plate includes 283 substantially small holes. The bottom plate has a deepened center well formed in the top surface. Elongated slots are formed in the top surface which extend out from the well. The slots have distal ends which extend beyond the Petri dish. Air is drawn into the sampler by a vacuum tube through an air port which communicates with the center well. Air is pulled into the 283 holes in the top plate and strikes the capture material in the Petri dish. The air then travels up over the sides of the dish, into the distal ends, through the slots, and into the center well, where it exits out of the vacuum air port.

The apparatus has a timing device having a display to show the elapsed time between a test mass passing the upslope sensor and the downslope sensor. The operator can determine the static coefficient of fraction from the tangent of the angle displayed on the digital angle meter when a test mass first begins to slide, and can compute the kinetic coefficient of friction from the angle displayed on the digital angle meter and the elapsed time shown on the timing device.
