  • Patent number: 4448739
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for manufacturing multi-ply sheets of extrudable plastics material supplied by way of at least two webs which are produced by extruders having flat sheet dies and which are bonded to a structured insert web by means of rolls. Moreover, the invention relates to multi-ply sheets thus produced, especially for use with a shower enclosure. In manufacturing such multi-ply sheets it is difficult to obtain a reliable bond between the webs and the structured web without sophisticated machinery. There is also the requirement that the structured web be uniformly introduced between the webs. The invention proposes to feed these webs to a single common set of rolls and to arrange the flat sheet die of at least one extruder so close to a set of rolls that a reliable permanent bond to the structured web and/or at the other web is obtained by the heat accumulated and carried in the one web just extruded.

  • Patent number: 4446085
Abstract: Seal rings are molded from an injection moldable elastomeric material, with the rings being designed to have an axially thick body, a rib at the outer periphery for mounting engagement within the outer race ring groove, and a flexible sealing lip at the inner periphery for engagement with the inner race ring. To provide a rigid support body for the ring, particles are dispersed within the moldable material to be injected into the molds, the filler particles having a minimum dimension substantially larger than the maximum dimension of the sealing lip so that, during molding, the filler particles are excluded from the lip but are embedded in the body portion to make that portion more rigid.

  • Patent number: 4445836
Abstract: Provided is a method and apparatus for molding and winding in a continuous operation a string of molded items. The molded items of the string or chain are molded in spaced relationship to one another and are connected by molded scrap connectors. The string of molded items is then advanced until only a trailing connector of the last molded item extends into the mold cavity. Upon subsequent molding operation, therefore, the subsequent molded item is molded integral with the existing string of molded items. The continuous string of molded items is kept under constant tension and wound periodically into a coil. The molding, advancing, tensioning and winding operations are all integrated and synchronized in order to provide a wound package which greatly facilitates its use in an automatic assembly operation.

  • Patent number: 4440699
Abstract: A method of and a device for high-precision moulding of transparent objects is described. Before the object assumes its final shape, a radiation beam is passed through the moulds of a moulding device and the material contained therein, and the intensity distribution of the radiation spot formed by the beam is compared with a reference, thereby enabling the moulds to be aligned very accurately, so that high-quality products can be manufactured.

  • Patent number: 4439130
Abstract: A corrugator for receiving plastic from an extruder and continuously molding corrugated plastic tile therefrom. The corrugator has a plurality of mold assemblies which are continuously driven to roll about an endless trackway on the corrugator frame, a portion of which defines a molding section. Each mold assembly includes a pair of mold blocks mounted to pivotally open and close. As the mold assemblies enter the molding section, the mold blocks thereof pivotally close and come into abutting relationship with the closed mold blocks of preceeding mold assemblies to cooperatively form a corrugated molding tunnel. Extruded plastic is received by the molding tunnel which moves with and molds the corrugated tile. At the end of the molding section the mold blocks pivot away from and release the tile. To augment the formation the tile the mold blocks are cooled. Additionally a vacuum is induced between the extruded plastic and the wall of the molding tunnel to assure the mating thereof.

  • Patent number: 4432926
Abstract: A method for the longitudinal compressive treatment of a flexible web, e.g. of paper or textile material, in which the web is continuously driven longitudinally into and through a retarding treatment zone defined by and between a pair of opposed surfaces at least one of which is stationary and rough and retardingly engages the web, the value of the retarding force applied to the web over at least a part of the length of the retarding treatment zone varying in oscillatory fashion across the width of the zone so that the treatment improves or provides a directional property (e.g. stretch) of the web in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. In machines for obtaining this effect, the degree of roughness of retarder surface to which the web is subjected in the zone suitably so varies across the zone.

  • Patent number: 4427612
Abstract: A fleece is employed for the distribution of casting resin over a component surface to be sealed. Prior to the introduction of the casting resin, pressure is applied on the fleece with a heated stamp in order to smoothen the fleece. Through increased temperature of the stamp, or through a solvent, the fleece can be readily cemented together with the component surface. It is thus ensured that the fleece rests uniformly on the entire component surface to promote a favorable distribution of the casting resin.
