  • Patent number: 4707011
Abstract: A handle attachment structure primarily designed for use for the gripping of opposite sides, but at least one side wall, of a cardboard or like penetrable material box of the type intended to carry computer paper or like material and including two leaves at least one of which is provided with supporting teeth on its inwardly facing surface thereof for the penetrating engagement of the side wall of the box. A handle means is movably attached to the leaves and is selectively positionable into and out of a coplanar position with the wall being gripped, the latter coplanar position defining a lifting position of the handle relative to the box and leaves.

  • Patent number: 4705313
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a depending pair of fingers may be caused to grip a component on an inside surface by spreading the fingers apart or to grip the outside surface of a component by closing the fingers upon the component, with the relative orientation of the gripping faces of the fingers depending upon sliding displacement of the tool posts supporting the fingers. The fingers are driven into positive engagement with the surface to be gripped, for both inside and outside gripping, via positive displacement and spreading of cam followers by a cam which, in turn, is displaced by a fluid cylinder. Alternatively, the fingers may be biased into engagement with the surface to be gripped, for both inside and outside gripping, with disengagement of the fingers being provided by positive displacement and spreading of the followers by the cam.

  • Patent number: 4703967
Abstract: A double-retention redundant pull pin release system is disclosed. The system responds to a single pull during an intentional release operation. A spiral-threaded main pin is seated in a mating bore in a housing, which main pin has a flange fastened thereon at the part of the main pin which is exterior to the housing. Accidental release tends to rotate the main pin. A secondary pin passes through a slightly oversized opening in the flange and is seated in a second bore in the housing. The pins counteract against one another to prevent accidental release. A frictional lock is shared between the main and secondary pins to enhance further locking of the system. The secondary pin, in response to a first pull, is fully retracted from its bore and flange hole. Thereafter the pull causes the main pin to rotate free of the housing to release, for example, a parachute mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4702507
Abstract: A locking device is described for use in selectively locking a plurality of pivotable members at selected operative positions about a central axis. The device includes means for mounting the members for pivotal motion about axes that may be substantially parallel and spaced outwardly from a central axis of a support. The device also mounts the members for axial motion along the axes between locking and unlocking positions. An axially displaceable spool is spring biased on the support to normally urge the members axially toward the locking position. In the locking positions, locking surfaces on the members mate with complimentary surfaces on the support to prevent pivotal motion of the members about the individual member axes. The spool is selectively movable on the support to lock itself and the members in this axial orientation. The spool is also selectively retractable to enable axial separation of the locking surfaces. The unlocked members are individually pivotable to folded, inoperative positions.

The device includes a shocker, for urging the ashes rearwardly from the shovel component to the storage component. An optional poker for stacking the fire may be removably secured to the device for ready access by the user. A handle to enhance portability especially when the device is warm may be disposed upon at least the storage component. The storage component can also have a one way flap, to prevent material already disposed within the storage compartment from escaping when the device is angularly tipped for the collection of additional waste materials.

  • Patent number: 4696505
Abstract: A device for hand-carrying articles includes a metal carrying handle and an elongated carrying strap. The handle has a pair of spaced apart, elongated side sections which extend along and are positioned on opposite sides of handle axis. The side sections are interconnected at their upper ends by a handgrip portion which extends transversely to the axis, at their lower ends by a lower crossbar which has an elongated slot formed therethrough, and at longitudinally intermediate portions thereof by a central crossbar to which is anchored an end portion of the carrying strap. To carry an article, the strap is looped around the article to define a carrying loop portion of the strap. The free end of the strap is then passed over the lower handle crossbar and then back through the crossbar slot to define in the strap a strap connecting loop portion. When the handle is lifted, the connecting loop portion is frictionally locked to the lower crossbar to prevent enlargement of the strap carrying loop.

  • Patent number: 4696501
Abstract: An electronic force-detecting robot gripper for gripping objects and attaching to an external robot arm is disclosed. The gripper comprises motor apparatus, gripper jaws, and electrical circuits for driving the gripper motor and sensing the amount of force applied by the jaws. The force applied by the jaws is proportional to a threshold value of the motor current. When the motor current exceeds the threshold value, the electrical circuits supply a feedback signal to the electrical control circuit which, in turn, stops the gripper motor.
