Abstract: Here is disclosed an improved nonwoven fabric wiper obtained by a method comprising steps of forming a laminate from a web of thermally shrinkable hydrophobic synthetic fibers and a web of hydrophilic fibers put one upon another, jetting high pressure water onto the laminate supported on a supporting roll provided on its peripheral surface with a plurality of fine projections as well as a plurality of drainage apertures, causing the fibers to be entangled or intertwined and rearranged and thereby forming a nonwoven fabric having uneven fiber distribution densities, and heating the nonwoven fabric to crimp the synthetic fibers so that only portions of relatively high fiber density may bulge.
Abstract: A process for the production of a two-layer textile reinforcement for the production of bituminous sealing sheets for roofing consists first, from a first layer based on nonwoven cloth, in consolidating this nonwoven cloth by mechanical or hydraulic bonding and in thermostabilizing it. This first consolidated and thermostabilized layer is then assembled with a second mineral fiber layer, either by counter-gluing, or by needling, or by seam knitting. These two latter assembly methods are used only when the second mineral fiber layer is in the form of a grid or cloth of continuous or discontinuous mineral filaments. The first assembly method by counter-gluing is itself used no matter what the structure of the second mineral filament layer, whether it be in the form of a grid or a cloth of continuous or discontinuous mineral fibers or in the form of a scrim of mineral fibers.

Abstract: A method of producing self-texturing filaments that exhibit a desirable tendency to coil rather than to bend sharply or zig zag. The method includes directing a quenching fluid at extruded hollow filaments of a liquid polymer predominantly from one side of the hollow filaments to thereby produce hollow filaments with different orientations on each side. Thereafter the temperature of the hollow filaments is raised to a temperature sufficient for the filaments to relax, but less than the temperature at which the filaments would shrink. When the relaxed filaments are cut into staple lengths, they tend to assume a form that provides a favorable degree of mechanical entanglement that is useful in forming resilient solid structures.

Abstract: A dust sock filter medium laminate is provided which has at least two nonwoven webs of microfibers which have an average diameter (using a sample size of at least 10) between about 10 and 25 microns and which webs have been joined by a method comprising the steps of (a) directing the component layers to a separation zone, (b) applying water in the amount of from about 5% to 25% based on the weight of the combined layers, (c) combining the component layers, (d) passing the combination through a sonic bonder operating within the range of up to about 40,000 cps against a patterned anvil to produce a corresponding pattern of thermal bond areas over about 3% to 25% of the surface area of the combination, and, (e) drying the sonically bonded combination.
Abstract: A diaper containing a liquid pervious topsheet coated with a lotion composition is disclosed. The lotion composition reduces the adherence of BM to the skin of the wearer, thereby improving the ease of BM clean up, and improves skin softness. The lotion composition comprises a solid polyol polyester and an emollient to improve the lubricity of the solid polyol polyester. The polyol polyester(s) and emollient remains at or near the skin surface, providing the desired BM cleaning or therapeutic benefits.
Abstract: A pad is provided for use on a machine for the polishing of silicon wafers which allows the use of optical detection of the wafer surface condition as the wafer is being polished. This accomplished by constructing the entire pad or a portion thereof out of a solid uniform polymer sheet with no intrinsic ability to absorb or transport slurry particles and which is transparent to the light beam being used to detect the wafer surface condition by optical methods. Polymers which are transparent to light having a wavelength within the range of 190 to 3500 nanometers are suitable for the construction of these pads.
Abstract: A industrial fabric of monofilament of polyphthalamide having recurring units including copolymerized hexamethylene diamine and mixtures of copolymerized terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, and adipic acid. The monofilament has excellent hydrolysis, chemical, and abrasion resistance. It is particularly useful for the cloth in the forming and pressing sections of a papermaking machine.
Abstract: A tear resistant film comprises more than five layers situated one on the other in a parallel array. The layers are individually selected from a stiff polyester or copolyester, a ductile polymeric material, and optionally, an intermediate material. The stiff polyester or copolyester is oriented in at least one direction. Tear resistance may be measured in a Graves area test and reflects the ability of the film to absorb energy. The films of the invention are useful in many articles including security control laminates for glazing members.

Abstract: An improved thermally insulating batt particularly designed for use as filling material for winter apparel, quilts, sleeping bags and the like, is produced by first preparing carded webs consisting of natural or synthetic fibers, plying several webs to form a batt, and then subjecting this batt to a subsequent resin treatment, on at least one face thereof, by using specific cross-linked glues. The resin treated batt is then calendered, under controlled temperature and pressure conditions, so as to obtain, on its surface, a soft, resilient and heat-sensitive film and, in the interior, an air chamber so as to provide a low thermal exchange coefficient and a proper control of the body temperature.

Abstract: The textile spacer material is a material for replacing foamed substances; it consists of two knitted or woven covering layers that are connected by a pile thread structure. The pile thread structure produces the compressibility known from flexible foams and the large air fraction. The elasticity can be determined by the length and density of the pile threads and the material used. When recyclable materials are used, an environmentally compatible foam substitute can be obtained. Moreover, the textile spacer material can also assume chemical or physical properties through the use of treated starting material or a treatment during or after production and thus be used as a filter or catalyst material, for example.

Abstract: A method of producing easily densified high bulk fibers that have adhered particulates. The high bulk fibers have hydrogen bonding or coordinate covalent bonding functionalities, and a binder is applied to the fibers to bind the particles to the fibers. The binder has a functional group that forms a hydrogen bond or a coordinate covalent bond with the particles, and a functional group that forms a hydrogen bond with the fibers. A substantial portion of the particles that are adhered to the fibers are adhered in particulate form by hydrogen bonds or coordinate covalent bonds to the binder, and the binder is in turn adhered to the fibers by hydrogen bonds. Fibers containing particles bound by this method are easily densified.
