Abstract: An image pickup apparatus which is capable of detecting a flash band with high accuracy even when no flash light is falling on a part of an image. The image pickup apparatus detects a band-shaped luminance step appearing in a plurality of frame images, which are obtained through image pickup by an image pickup unit, in a video comprised of the plurality of frame images. A detection area, which is for use in detecting the luminance step, is set in a part of the frame image according to a subject included in the frame image. Luminance data is obtained on a line-by-line basis in the detection area, and based on a difference in luminance data between corresponding lines in the frame images, the luminance step is detected.

Abstract: Multiframe reconstruction combines a set of acquired images into a reconstructed image. Here, which images to acquire are selected based at least in part on the content of previously acquired images. In one approach, a set of at least three images of an object are acquired at different acquisition settings. For at least one of the images in the set, the acquisition setting for the image is determined based at least in part on the content of previously acquired images. Multiframe image reconstruction, preferably via a multi-focal display, is applied to the set of acquired images to synthesize a reconstructed image of the object.

  • Patent number: 9854160
Abstract: Implementations of the disclosed technology include techniques for autonomously collecting image data, and generating photo summaries based thereon. In some implementations, a plurality of images may be autonomously sampled from an available stream of image data. For example, a camera application of a smartphone or other mobile computing device may present a live preview based on a stream of data from an image capture device. The live stream of image capture data may be sampled and the most interesting photos preserved for further filtering and presentation. The preserved photos may be further winnowed as a photo session continues and an image object generated summarizing the remaining photos. Accordingly, image capture data may be autonomously collected, filtered, and formatted to enable a photographer to see what moments they missed manually capturing during a photo session.

  • Patent number: 9832401
Abstract: An exemplary method implements fixed pattern noise compensation for captured visual images of a moving scene. A current X-by-Y frame of image values captured by a camera is stored in memory where the magnitude of each image value represents a light level associated with a respective X-by-Y position in the frame. A moving average value for each image value over a number of X-by-Y frames is determined where the moving average value for each X-by-Y image value represents a level of fixed pattern noise for the moving scene. X-by-Y frames with fixed pattern noise compensated image values are generated based on subtracting from each image value of the current X-by-Y frame the corresponding moving average value.
