  • Patent number: 5104475
Abstract: A novel carpet seaming tape and method for use in glue down carpet installations is provided. A carpet seaming tape having a paper carrier with a hot melt adhesive on its top surface and a pressure sensitive adhesive on its bottom surface is aligned beneath the abutting edges of two pieces of carpeting to be seamed, with the hot melt adhesive on top. The tape is attached to the floor using the pressure sensitive adhesive, the carpet pieces are removed and the floor is coated with general purpose adhesive everywhere except in those areas where the seaming tape has been attached. The carpet is replaced and realigned, and seaming is completed by using a seaming iron to melt the hot melt adhesive and pushing the edges of the carpeting pieces into the molten adhesive atop the carpet seaming tape so that the edges of the carpet closely abut each other.

  • Patent number: 5098495
Abstract: A process for coating a packaging film with a transparent barrier coating. The process starts with a metal substrate made of, or having a surface coating of, a valve metal or valve metal alloy. The metal substrate is anodized to form an anodic film of the valve metal on the metal substrate. The anodic film is made readily detachable from the metal by carrying out the anodization step in the presence of an adhesion-reducing agent, e.g. a fluoride. The packaging film is then attached to the anodic film and the anodic film is detached from the metal. The transferred anodic film forms a thin dense oxide coating on the packaging film that acts as a barrier against oxygen and moisture transport. The invention can be used for making packaging films suitable for packaging foodstuffs, and the like.

  • Patent number: 5091035
Abstract: The invention relates to a removal aid for mechanically detachable substrates adhering to a sheet-like, flexible carrier material and in the form of cuts or predetermined breaking lines in said carrier material. At least in the contact surface of the carrier material is provided for each substrate a separate, non-linear cutting or predetermined breaking line, so that when pressure is exerted on the carrier material with a force component in a direction at right angles to the substrate contact surface a carrier material portion with the substrate portion adhering thereto and bounded by the cutting or predetermined breaking line can be bent in the direction of the substrate or substrates, so that at least part of the substrate in the border area thereof adjacent to the cutting or predetermined breaking line is detached from the carrier material and consequently a gripping portion is formed on the substrate for the complete removal of the latter.

  • Patent number: 5080751
Abstract: A relatively small, portable rotary heat sealer which may be held by a hand to support it during operation including a frame, and first and second wheels mounted on the frame. The wheels are rotatable with respect to the frame about respective first and second axes which are generally parallel to each other. Both wheels have rims, with the rim of the second wheel positioned adjacent the rim of the first wheel to define a nip for receiving heat sealable material. An electric motor rotates the second wheel about the second axis such that the heat sealable material is drawn into and through the nip. The rim of the first wheel is heated so that the material is sealed as it is drawn through the nip. A handle is affixed to the frame for carrying the rotary heat sealer and for supporting the heat sealer during its operation.
