    Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for requiring a mobile station (MS) to notify the network of the number and/or duration of positionings performed by the MS. A service program or API (Application Program Interface), e.g., JAVA program, which is responsible for collecting information regarding the requests for location information, is either included in a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, or other memory, of the MS, or downloaded to the SIM card in the MS. As a result of performing a location calculation, the API within the MS initiates a mobile originated reporting Short Message Service (SMS) or Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) message to the serving network, which includes a time stamp of the time and date the positioning request was received, the number and/or duration of the positioning(s) and the final location of MS.

    Abstract: A method for rescuing communication connections from dropping when multiple connections are failing simultaneously is disclosed. The simultaneous rescue of connections is applicable to both forward and reverse-based rescue procedures. In one approach, the network can assign rescue codes to the MSs, and simultaneous rescues can thereafter be initiated using rescue channels defined by the rescue codes. To minimize the chance of collisions, the network may attempt to ensure that the MSs in need of rescue use different rescue codes, to the extent possible. In another non-mutually exclusive approach, the network can sequentially rescue the connections in danger of being dropped using rescue slots. In the rescue slot approach, individual MSs choose, or are assigned, different rescue slots in which to attempt a rescue.

If the wireless unit is unavailable, the mobile switching center forwards the call to a wireless service node, preferably immediately and without providing any ring back tone to the calling party. The wireless service node prompts the calling party to speak a message for transmission to the wireless telephone unit. The wireless service node converts the message spoken by the calling party from a speech message to a text message and forwards text message to a short message service center for transmission to the wireless unit.

    Abstract: There has been such a drawback that it is difficult to accurately estimate the location of mobile station MS in a mobile communication system. To solve the problem, according to the mobile communication system of the present invention, a mobile station and several base station cooperate for estimation. First the base stations BS in which the mobile station is laid and other base stations adjacent thereto each measure the receipt levels of the radio wave radiated by the mobile station to notify the position manage center of the receipt levels. Second the position manage center instructs the mobile station to control the radio wave pursuant to the receipt levels in such a fashion the receipt levels are stabilized; finally. Third each base station measure the distance between the base station and the mobile station based upon the propagation time of the radio wave to inform the position manage center of the distance.

    Abstract: A telephone set automatically switches between displaying telephone communication information and displaying images on a display panel of the telephone set. The telephone communication information indicates whether the telephone set is within range of a base station. At the end of a call, or when power is first switched on, the display panel of the telephone set displays telephone communication information when the telephone set enters a standby mode to wait for a call to arrive. After the telephone set remains in the standby mode for a predetermined period of time (e.g., five minutes) without receiving a call or input from an input unit (e.g., keypad) on the telephone set, images unrelated to telephone communication are displayed on the display panel of the telephone set for the user's amusement. The telephone communication information is then presented by an indicator circuit of the telephone set instead of the display panel.

When the phase lock loop is high side locked, a target frequency in a higher band of output frequencies is generated.
