Patent number: 5288295Abstract: A fuel comprised of liquid and solid refinery waste streams is described. The fuel is a blend of a heavy paraffinic oil, an emulsified waste oil, water and solids. The fuel is blended both to achieve a viscosity which enables the fuel to be pumped, and to obtain the required fuel value for burning in a cement kiln while simultaneously having a high solids content. The amount of the heavy paraffinic oil present in the final fuel is related to the ambient temperature at which the fuel is to be pumped, stored and consumed. Typically, the higher the ambient temperature the more heavy paraffinic oil that can be used in the fuel blend.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1993Date of Patent: February 22, 1994Assignee: Romic Chemical CorporationInventors: Ron Hypes, Peter Morton

Patent number: 5205952Abstract: The present invention is directed to improved methods for processing battery wastes, batter casing debris and other lead contaminated materials. The improved processes of the present invention provide less environmentally stressful methods for recovering lead from such materials while at the same time producing scrap or recyclable ebonite and plastics having reduced and environmentally acceptable lead and leachable lead levels. Most of the lead is first removed by trommel scrubbing. In another aspect of the present invention ebonite and other hard surface materials to which are adhered lead contaminants are mixed with water and abraded in a high energy scrubber to remove the adhered contaminants prior to separation of the cleaned ebonite from solution. This simple and environmentally preferred hydromechanical process provides clean scrap or recyclable ebonite.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1991Date of Patent: April 27, 1993Assignee: NL Industries, Inc.Inventors: Alistair H. Patent number: 5167851Abstract: A water washable thermally conductive grease useful for thermal coupling of electronic chips and heat sinks in electronic modules comprises a hydrophilic liquid polymer carrier, an antioxidant, and up to 90 weight percent of a microparticulate thermally conductive filler. In a preferred embodiment, the thixotropic dielectric composition further comprises an ionic surfactant to promote wetting/dispersion of the microparticulate filler. The thermally conductive grease is non-corrosive, resistant to shear induced phase destabilization and capable of being washed from module surfaces with aqueous solutions. Substitution of the present hydrophilic based greases for art-recognized solvent washable greases eliminates use of non-aqueous solvents in electronic module processing/reprocessing operations.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1991Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Assignee: Thermoset Plastics, Inc.Inventors: William L. Patent number: 5026400Abstract: Narrow range ethoxylate nonionic detergents, in combination with coil release promoting polyethylene terephthalate-polyoxyethylene terephthalate (PET-POET) copolymer (in place of broad range ethoxylate nonionic detergent and PET-POET copolymer) are of significantly and unexpectedly improved soil release promoting activity in built synthetic organic detergent compositions, of either the phosphate-built or non-phosphate-built types. Preferably, there will be present with the PET-POET copolymer a stabilizing proportion of polyacrylate, to stabilize the PET-POET copolymer against deterioration and loss of soil release promoting activity on storage at elevated temperature, especially when in contact with alkaline components of the detergent composition. The improved soil release promoting activity is most pronounced when the laundry to be washed and treated is subjected to repeated launderings with the invented compositions in cold water and when it includes polyester-containing fibrous materials.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1989Date of Patent: June 25, 1991Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive CompanyInventors: Richard J. Patent number: 5023011Abstract: An in-service formulation for the removal of scale deposits from metallic working surfaces of cooling towers and for the ongoing prevention of build-up of such deposits on cooling tower surfaces, with such deposits commonly consisting of insoluble salts of calcium together with oxides of iron. The formulation comprises a blend of selected phosphonates, one or more scale-modifying polymers, along with one or more chelants. Sodium gluconate is utilized for its ability to inhibit corrosion of ferrous surfaces as well as its synergistic effect in conjunction with other constituents for the removal of scale components (as demonstrated in U.S. Pat. No. 4,279,768). In those systems having non-ferrous metallic surfaces, such surfaces have been found to be adequately protected by the formulation through the incorporation of a triazole inhibitor.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1990Date of Patent: June 11, 1991Assignee: Fremont Industries, Inc.Inventors: Bruce D.
