  • Patent number: 4776234
Abstract: A limited slip differential axle assembly includes a plurality of pressure plate segments which are electromagnetically biased against friction discs of clutch packs secured to side gears of the differential. In a preferred form, the assembly is formed of a two-piece of "split" differential case and includes an armature ring rigidly coupled to a pressure plate loading ring. Electromagnetic coupling forces are adjustably controlled by a vehicular operator to permit modulation of bias for given road conditions, wherein a limited slip differential control may be effective to bias a clutch pack to provide a variable friction drag between at least one of the side gears and the differential case. For this purpose, an energizing coil is secured rigidly to the differential carrier, while a magnet shell member is rigidly affixed to one part of the split differential case.

  • Patent number: 4773283
Abstract: An infinitely variable compound transmission has a tripartite hydrodynamic torque converter having a pump, a turbine member and a guide member relatively rotatable about a common axis. An input pump shaft normally driven by an engine is connected to the pump, a guide shaft is connected to the guide member and coaxial with the pump shaft, and a turbine shaft coaxial with the guide and pump shafts is connected to the turbine member. A brake connected to the turbine shaft is energizable for immobilizing the turbine shaft against rotation. A coupling clutch connected between the turbine shaft and the guide shaft is actuatable for joint rotation of same about the axis. A bypass clutch is actuatable for connecting the pump shaft to one of the members. An infinitely variable belt transmission operatively connected to the guide shaft has an output shaft connectable to a load.

  • Patent number: 4770064
Abstract: A device is provided for reducing the engine torque when shifting a speed-change gear transmission connected downstream of an internal combustion engine. A final engine torque control element is connected to a control device which cause the final control element to reduce the engine torque dependent on certain operating conditions dictated by speed and load of the internal combustion engine and upon the occurrence of a switching signal, with interposition of at least one timing element. To obtain precise timing between shifting and engine intervention, the arrangement is made such that the switching signal is triggered synchronously to the torque reversal at a lockable reaction gear element of a planetary wheel gear involved in the shifting so as to cause the final control element to reduce the engine torque without any time delay.

  • Patent number: 4765203
Abstract: There is provided in an automatic transmission a shift valve which is provided with a plug movable responsive to an engine brake command to hold a valve spool of the shift valve to a downshift position thereof. The plug is designed to supply working hydraulic pressure to an engine brake friction element after it has moved responsive to the engine brake command to hold the valve spool of the shift valve to the downshift position thereof. When the engine brake command is not available, the plug allows the valve spool of the shift valve to move between the downshift position thereof and an upshift position thereof.

  • Patent number: 4763543
Abstract: A transmission for a working vehicle comprising a front frame and a rear frame interconnected to be pivotable relative to each other on a substantially vertical axis. The transmission is mounted together with an engine on the rear frame. A casing housing the transmission includes an upper case housing a change speed portion of the transmission and a lower case housing an output portion of the transmission. The upper case supports an input shaft operatively connected to the engine and surrounded by a planetary change speed gear assembly constituting the change speed portion. The planetary change speed gear assembly has an input gear mounted on a front portion of the input shaft and an output gear mounted on a rear portion of the input shaft. The lower case supports an output shaft operatively connected to the output gear. The output shaft includes a coupling device at a forward end thereof for connection to a propeller shaft for driving front wheels.

  • Patent number: 4759235
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a steering wheel structure which has a stationary pad. On a steering shaft, there are mounted a boss plate of the steering wheel and column-side and pad-side sun gears. The boss plate is formed with at least one mounting recess which is opened to the outside. In this mounting recess, there is rotatably mounted through an intermediate member at least one planetary shaft which has column-side and pad-side planetary gears at its two ends. Upon assembly, the two planetary gears are brought into respectively meshing engagements with the two sun gears from the radially outer sides of the same.

  • Patent number: 4748864
Abstract: A reversing gear assembly (13) for a marine angle drive comprises a horizontal input shaft (15), to be connected to a horizontally mounted engine (11) and an inclined output shaft (16) to be connected to the propeller shaft (12). Gear casing (14) includes an intermediate shaft (17) which extends parallel with the output shaft (16). The input shaft (16) fixedly mounts a cylindrical gear (22) which meshes with a forward drive conical gear (23) on the output shaft (16) and with a reverse drive cylindrical gear (25) on the intermediate shaft (17). Center of engagement between the cylindrical gears (22, 25) is located on the sole common perpendicular line of the input and intermediate shafts (15, 17). Reverse drive gear train further includes two meshing cylindrical gears (26, 24) on the intermediate and output shafts (17, 16). The gears (23, 24) on the output shaft (16) are selectively coupled to this shaft by clutch means (32).

  • Patent number: 4745818
Abstract: A differential is disclosed for driving the steering wheels of a multi-wheel-drive vehicle, including holdout rings for maintaining in a disengaged condition an output shaft that overruns an associated output shaft by a given amount. In order to decrease the turning radius of the vehicle, the lug portions on one holdout ring are angularly displaced relative to the lug portions on the other holdout ring, whereby the overrunning output shaft is maintained in a disengaged condition during a sharp turn that produces overrunning of the output shaft above a given value.
