Patent number: 10432963Abstract: Particular embodiments provide a variable, BitDepth, that may be set at a value based on a number of bits used to represent pixels in pictures of a video. The variable may be used in syntax elements in HEVC, such as the HEVC range extension, but other coding standards may be used. By using the variable, different resolutions for the video may be accommodated during the encoding and decoding process. For example, the number of pixels in the pictures may be represented by 8 bits, 10 bits, 12 bits, or another number of bits depending on the resolution. Using the BitDepth variable in the syntax provides flexibility in the motion estimation and motion compensation process. For example, syntax elements used in the weighted prediction process may take into account different numbers of bits used to represent the pictures.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2014Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: ARRIS Enterprises LLCInventors: Yue Yu, Limin Wang

Patent number: 10432977Abstract: In a method to improve backwards compatibility when decoding high-dynamic range images coded in a wide color gamut (WCG) space which may not be compatible with legacy color spaces, hue and/or saturation values of images in an image database are computed for both a legacy color space (say, YCbCr-gamma) and a preferred WCG color space (say, IPT-PQ). Based on a cost function, a reshaped color space is computed so that the distance between the hue values in the legacy color space and rotated hue values in the preferred color space is minimized HDR images are coded in the reshaped color space. Legacy devices can still decode standard dynamic range images assuming they are coded in the legacy color space, while updated devices can use color reshaping information to decode HDR images in the preferred color space at full dynamic range.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2016Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: Dobly Laboratories Licensing CorporationInventors: Robin Atkins, Peng Yin, Taoran Lu, Jaclyn Anne Pytlarz

Patent number: 10412415Abstract: A method for decoding a video signal using a graph-based transform, where the method includes: receiving a template index for a target unit from the video signal, wherein the template index indicates a graph-based transform template to be applied to the target unit; deriving a graph-based transform matrix for the target unit corresponding to the template index; and decoding the target unit based on the graph-based transform matrix. In some scenarios, this enables efficient compression of inter-predicted residual blocks by using graph-based transform templates. The graph-based transform template may enable adaptive transform selection, thus achieving improved coding gain. Further, by defining a graph-based transform template or a template index, coding with a low-complexity is enabled that can reduce the number of bits to be transmitted to the decoder.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2015Date of Patent: September 10, 2019Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Amir Said, Hilmi Enes Egilmez

Patent number: 10404924Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for detecting stationary presence using IR sensor data. A number of IR images may be captured based on IR sensor data and these IR images may be averaged over various time intervals to calculate a number of average IR frames. The difference between these average IR frames provides a delta frame. A mask frame may be calculated as the summation of delta frames over time, and the value of the mask frame may be used to detect a stationary human presence even when no delta value is calculated. Alternatively, the mask frame may be used to calculate a background frame that represents the IR signature of stationary or cyclical objects within the scanned area that are not intended to trigger the presence detection system. A stationary presence may be determined by subtracting the background frame from a current average IR frame.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2013Date of Patent: September 3, 2019Assignee: OSRAM SYLVANIA Inc.Inventors: Christian Breuer, Anant Aggarwal

Patent number: 10380433Abstract: A sequence of images is processed to generate optical flow data including a list of motion vectors. The motion vectors are grouped based on orientation into a first set of moving away motion vectors and a second set of moving towards motion vectors. A vanishing point is determined as a function of the first set of motion vectors and a center position of the images is determined. Pan and tilt information is computed from the distance difference between the vanishing point and the center position. Approaching objects are identified from the second set as a function of position, length and orientation, thereby identifying overtaking vehicles. Distances to the approaching objects are determined from object position, camera focal length, and pan and tilt information. A warning signal is issued as a function of the distances.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2017Date of Patent: August 13, 2019Assignee: STMicroelectronics S.r.l.Inventors: Nunziata Ivana Guarneri, Arcangelo Ranieri Bruna, Giuseppe Spampinato
