Abstract: In a private video recorder for recording contents of TV program delivered from TV stations, data of the contents of TV program (contents data) are memorized into segments in a contents data memory area, and the contents data are controlled as one video picture file by appointing the segments memorizing the contents data in segment appointing information of the video picture file. When the contents recorded in the private video recorder is edited, only the appointment of the segments in the segment appointing information is rewritten without cutting, copying or inserting the contents data.

Abstract: Replaying a compressed digital video stream in fast-forward and reverse modes at varied playback rates. An index of intercoded frames, those frames not dependant on other frames for generation, is stored. The index includes the size of interceded frames and their storage location. When a specified playback rate is requested, the interceded frames are retrieved using the index. The intercoded frames then have one or more intracoded frames, frames that reference other frames for generation, placed between them to generate a frame sequence. The intracoded frames are “blank,” meaning they contain only information from their associated intercoded frame. By inserting “blank” frames specified playback rates and bit rates are generated. The index of interceded frames may also be accessed to generate playback in reverse mode, which conserves memory resources of associated systems by generating the reverse playback stream in an iterative manner.

Abstract: A navigation area of the recording medium stores navigation management information associated with each title of video data. The navigation management information indicates at least one reproduction path for the title of video data and includes an attribute field indicating at least one attribute of the navigation management information.

Abstract: An audio/video data storing and searching apparatus is provided, which stores audio/video data including additional information of a user desired program, to thereby perform an easy searching. For this purpose, the present invention decodes a transport stream (TS) packet and reads additional information with respect to a user desired audio/video packet from program specific information (PSI), and inserts and stores the read result in a particular region of the audio/video packet and parses the additional information to perform a searching. Thus, the audio/video data storing apparatus extracts additional information, inserts the extracted additional information into a particular region, and stores resultant audio/video data. As a result, the audio/video data storing apparatus can reduce a capacity of a storage medium which is used for storing user desired audio/video data.
