  • Patent number: 7486870
Abstract: A client for reproducing a video session includes a memory and a processor coupled to the memory. The memory stores a first video frame that includes first video data, a first video sub-frame comprising second video data that is different from the first video data, and a second video sub-frame comprising third video data. The processor generates a second video frame using the first video frame and the first video sub-frame, wherein the third video data is different from the video data of the second video frame. The processor further generates a third video frame using the second video frame and the second video sub-frame, and displays the first video frame.

  • Patent number: 7450819
Abstract: In bitstream recording presentation data is organized into Video Object Units. These have a variable size but have also a variable duration. To allow access to any Video Object Unit in the bitstream a housekeeping address table is used which is based on pieces of the bitstream of constant size per piece. The address table additionally contains for each of these pieces a specific delta duration which indicates the time difference between the arrival time of the first packet of a piece and the arrival time of the packet following immediately the last packet of that piece. The computation of the target VOBU address includes the following steps: accumulate the delta durations until the given time value is most closely reached towards the target VOBU; the running index of this table entry multiplied by the constant piece size directly results in the address value to be accessed.

  • Patent number: 7359625
Abstract: A recording medium having content stream data recorded thereon and a recording and reproducing apparatus provided therefor. On the recording medium, content stream data is recorded as a stream object formed of one or more stream object units, each having a predetermined size and one or more stream packs. Each of the stream packs has an application time stamp indicating reproducing time information and a plurality of application packets in which the content stream data is packed. Each of the stream object units, excluding the last stream object unit, has at least one entire application time stamp. Thus, search information on all of the stream object units is correctly obtained, and program searching is carried out without error.

  • Patent number: 7333713
Abstract: In a disk camera, when additional information and moving picture information are managed as one file and recorded on an optical disk, useless area is minimized, thereby allowing effective use of recording capacity. A recording controlling part records continuously with respect to a logical block of the optical disk, at least one of input video and audio information in a packet format of a fixed length that is different from a data size of the logical block, and creates a data file for recording with respect to the logical block, additional information with respect to the video or audio information in the packet format of the fixed length. In this one data file, a fixed data size portion of the additional information is arranged in an area ahead of an area in which the video and audio information are arranged, and a variable data size portion of the additional information is arranged in an area behind the area in which the video and audio information are arranged.

  • Patent number: 7190880
Abstract: A system for playing a selected one of multiple audio tracks recorded in synchronized fashion with a motion picture on an optical disk. The optical disk has encoded on it a mixing master music and effects (“M&E”) track, or a switching master M&E track. Individual audio tracks are provided for language-specific versions of the same motion picture, but these tracks have data recorded in them only where there is dialog. In this way, for many a motion picture, all tracks but masters will have data recorded for well less than half of the running time of the motion picture. When a mixing master is used, it is mixed with a language-specific track when the latter has dialog; the mixing master contains no dialog. If a switching master is used, it may contain dialog recorded with the M&E; when a language-specific track has dialog recorded in it, it also contains M&E and the track is played to the exclusion of the switching master.

  • Patent number: 7190878
Abstract: Original video data of a first format is edited. The first format video data has jitter frames (626) inserted therein and is displayed at a first frame rate. The original video data is read from a video tape recorder (301) in the first format and converted into a second format with no jitter frames, displayable at a second display rate. Time-code of the converted video data is related to time-code of the original video data so as to identify frame types for the converted video data. A portion (603-606) of the converted video data is modified to produce modified video data in the second format. New video data is generated in the first format by processing the modified video data. An edit processor is configured to replace an edit portion of the stored original data with the new data by defining an edit range with reference to the new data, selecting an edit field with reference to the frame type so as to initiate an edit on a data boundary.

  • Patent number: 7177528
Abstract: A disk drive apparatus is provided which is capable of performing recording and playback processing of an AV data stream requiring real-time characteristics and processing in an operation mode suitable for battery driving. The construction is formed in such a way that a first operation mode in which a disk rotation speed is set to be low, to which error handling in which an upper limit of an error handling time is determined as an error processing method suitable for performing recording or playback of real-time continuous information is made to correspond, and a second operation mode in which the disk rotation speed is set to be high and in which retries can be performed repeatedly as an error processing method suitable for performing recording or playback of data having high reliability, can be set. Thus, lower power consumption of real-time continuous data processing in image recording and playback by battery driving, such as in a portable video camera, is realized.

  • Patent number: 7151888
Abstract: The digital signal recording/reproducing apparatus inputs a digital signal having a control flag as to a temporary copy permission, and records the digital signal temporarily into a recording medium in accordance with conditions in the control flag, then reproducing the digital signal temporarily from the recording medium in accordance with the conditions in the control flag. The recording/reproducing of the temporary copy is permitted, depending on the following conditions: The recording medium's type, the re-producing point-in-time, the reproducing time-period, and the reproducing frequency. With this method employed, even in a program permitting no recording, the temporary recording/reproducing is permitted under a condition of being limited to the time-shift recording on the receiving side.

  • Patent number: 7133600
Abstract: The present invention may be regarded as a video recording system and method of transferring a non-time-critical, error-intolerant data segment stored on a disk drive, which is responsive to a set of data transfer commands generated by a host processor and which is operating in a mode optimized for transferring time-critical, error-tolerant streaming data segments stored or to be stored on the disk drive. The method includes sending a sequence of data transfer commands generated by the host processor to the disk drive to transfer a respective sequence of time-critical, error-tolerant streaming data segments at a required data transfer rate. The method further includes selectively interposing a first data transfer command into the sequence of data transfer commands, the first data transfer command initiating a first transfer of the non-time-critical, error-intolerant data segment from a first storage location.

  • Patent number: 7065291
Abstract: In a video recording/playback apparatus, when recording a series of packets transmitted over an IEEE 1394 bus, a relative value is taken between a requested time of arrival written in a header portion and a cycle time at the time of reception, and then the requested time of arrival is replaced with the relative value. When playing back the series of packets, the relative value is added to a cycle time at the time of transmission, and the relative value is replaced by the obtained value which will be used as a requested time of arrival for playback.

  • Patent number: 7050698
Abstract: A modified Colorstripe™ copy protection process utilizes a basic anti-copy protection (ACP) signal that causes attenuation of a video signal, wherein, in one embodiment, the process modifies (lowers) the level of a front porch portion and adds an incorrect color signal (color burst) in the region of the sync tip. When an illegal copy is made, a pre-blanked end of line portion causes a TV set to trigger the color burst sample pulse ahead of time and cause the incorrect color signal in the sync tip region to be sampled. Thus, since the sync tip region has incorrect color phase or frequency, the resulting illegal copy will have enhanced color distortions. In other embodiments, other portions of the horizontal blanking interval are lowered in level and incorrect color bursts are added to a portion or portions of the back porch and/or a portion of the front porch.

  • Patent number: 6965723
Abstract: A non-linear video edit system has first, second and third play modes which are selectable at time of playing a video for an edit. In the first play mode (EP TRIM), it plays a first cut scene (scene A) before an edit point and plays a second cut scene (scene B) after the edit point according to a play list. In the second play mode (PREV TRIM), it successively plays the first cut scene (scene A) before and after the edit point. In the third play mode (NEXT TRIM), it successively plays the second cut scene (scene B) before and after the edit point. These play modes allows to change the play speed in an arbitrary direction by a dial, and to switch the play mode with one touch of the corresponding three buttons with aligning current positions.
