  • Patent number: 4736819
Abstract: A splash lubrication system is provided for motor vehicle transmissions and comprises an oil sump (42) in the bottom portion of a case (30). The case (30) accommodates a transmission shaft (31) provided with gears (34 to 37) which are immersed in the oil at least partly when the said oil sump (42) is filled completely. In order to prevent the synchronizing mechanism from being blocked by cold and, consequently, very viscous oil in the presence of extremely low operating conditions--a condition which could lead to unsynchronized faulty gear shifting operations and, thus, damage to the transmission, the oil sump (42) is connected with a cavity (33) into which oil is drawn from the oil sump (42) under low operating temperature conditions of the transmission. To this end, preferably, an expansion body (38) is arranged in a cavity (33) in a transmission shaft (31) which contracts under cold conditions, and the cavity (33) is connected with the oil sump (42).

  • Patent number: 4737087
Abstract: A seal for the drive shaft of a gear pump for polymeric materials dissolved in a fluid solvent is disclosed, and which is adapted to prevent the polymeric material from leaking and hardening on the drive shaft. The seal includes a pair of axially spaced apart annular packing seals surrounding the drive shaft so as to define an annular chamber, and means for supplying a pressurized shielding inert gas, such as nitrogen, into the annular chamber. An outlet line is connected to the lowest portion of the annular space and leads to an air tight container which also contains a shielding inert atmosphere, and such that any polymeric material which leaks along the drive shaft and enters the annular chamber remains in solution, and is withdrawn into the air tight container. A valve is also provided on the container for periodically draining the withdrawn polymeric material therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4737086
Abstract: A fuel injection pump includes a reciprocating plunger and a control sleeve slidably fitted over the plunger, the prestroke of which is varied by vertical movement of the control sleeve. The control sleeve is provided at its upper end with a fuel discharge groove, through which the fuel contained in a fuel-pressurizing chamber is discharged after the end of injection. The control sleeve also has to pressure escape passage. A variation in the effective stroke allows the pressure of fuel contained in the fuel-pressurizing chamber to be selectively regulated by the pressure escape passage, thereby controlling the pressure of fuel to be injected.

  • Patent number: 4732237
Abstract: A splash lubricating device for a horizontal or inclined engine comprises an oil-spoon which is fixed to the connecting-rod of an engine having a cylinder installed on a crank case thereof horizontally or obliquely protrusively therefrom and which is provided with an oil-splash portion formed by bending laterally the lower end portion of the oil-spoon. And the oil-splash portion is turned forward by the connecting-rod along an elliptical orbit inclined forward and downward. The posture of the oil-splash portion is settled nearly parallel with an inrush angle thereof relative to the oil near an oil upper limit level in an oil pan in order to lessen the resistance put thereupon and also inclined forward and downward at a smaller angle than an outrush angle thereof relative to the oil near an oil lower limit level in order to attain good lubricating performance as well as lessen the resistance put thereupon.

  • Patent number: 4730995
Abstract: A first shim mounted on the shaft extending from the high pressure end face of a screw rotor in a screw compressor establishes the operating clearance between the high pressure end face of the rotor and the high pressure end wall of the compressor's working chamber by fixing the axial position of a bearing group which is likewise mounted on the rotor shaft. A second shim, disposed between the bearing group and a spring biased spacer element, is determinative of the distance the spacer element, and therefore the rotor, can travel in a direction toward the high pressure end of the compressor under the impetus of reverse axial thrust. Contact of the rotor with the high pressure end wall of the working chamber is positively precluded because movement of the spacer element, under the influence of rotor movement toward the high pressure end of the compressor, collapses the biasing spring which causes the spacer element to contact a fixed surface of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 4729727
Abstract: A gear pump which includes a pair of intermeshing gears. A housing defines a pumping chamber having peripheral walls surrounding and in sealing contact with the circumference of the gears between an inlet port and a discharge port. Bearing walls are adapted to engage adjacent side faces of the gears in substantially sealing relation. Grooves are provided in the bearing walls for progressively admitting pressure to the gear teeth as the gear teeth move toward the discharge port. The grooves are acruately shaped and diverge toward the discharge port from a point intermediate the inlet and discharge ports and allow compressed air in the liquid to be gradually displaced by liquid under pressure from the pump discharge.

  • Patent number: 4728269
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines has a pump piston which via a pressure plate rests with a piston bottom on an axially driven tappet with slight play. This contact is brought about by a pressure spring, which is supported on a spring plate so as to grip the piston bottom from behind. To prevent the pressure plate from falling out if the pump piston should become stuck, the spring plate is cup-shaped and includes a cylindrical cup portion having two projecting protrusions. The pressure plate has a radial flange adapted to rest on the projecting protrusions. Those protrusions and the radial flange are adapted to one another such that the pressure plate can be introduced in a predetermined position through the protrusions. The piston bottom located between the pressure plate and the plate bottom of the spring plate prevents the pressure plate from being able to assume a position, after assembly, in which it could slip and escape back outwardly through those protrusions.

  • Patent number: 4724926
Abstract: An oil dispenser for internal combustion engines having a crankcase includes an oil-containing, airtight reservoir disposed at a vertical location above the crankcase. A conduit connects the reservoir and the crankcase in order to establish fluid communication between the reservoir and the crankcase. The conduit has a lower end disposed in the crankcase at a level at which oil is desired to be maintained in the crankcase. A solenoid-activated valve is disposed at the lower end of the conduit to selectively permit or prevent the flow of oil through the conduit. The solenoid-activated valve includes a cup-like member which surrounds and is fitted against the lower end of the conduit upon valve closure. A control means is connected to the solenoid-activated valve for opening the solenoid-activated valve only after the engine has ceased operation and after a predetermined period of time has elapsed.
