Abstract: An image forming apparatus is provided which includes a document set section, a document size detecting device, a medium set section, a device for picking up the size of the medium, a medium feed device, and an image forming device for forming an image of a document in the document set section on the medium of an image forming location. The apparatus further includes an auto magnification designating device for generating data to designate an image forming magnification according to data representative of the size of the medium picked up by the pick up device by using the document size as detected by the document size detecting device. Further, a manual magnification designating device is providing for manually designating a desired magnification for image forming.
Abstract: A cleaning device for removing residual developer particles from a photoconductive element, such as a photoconductive belt, comprises a cleaning sleeve having a length substantially equal to the width of the photoconductive element. The cleaning sleeve includes a thin screen portion having apertures therein. The screen portion is maintained in contact with the photoconductive element. A biasing voltage is applied to the cleaning sleeve. Developer particles pass through the apertures in the screen portion. An auger is located in the interior of the cleaning sleeve. The auger transports the collected developer particles out of the cleaning sleeve where the particles may be either recycled or discarded.
Abstract: A discharging apparatus for use in a copying machine for discharging the photoreceptor layer laminated on a drum includes a short wavelength light source for producing a light having a wavelength shorter than 6000 angstrom, and a long wavelength light source for producing a light having a wavelength longer than 6200 angstrom. A control circuit is provided for controlling both light sources such that both light sources are turned on during at least one complete rotation of the drum before an exposure of a light image on the photoreceptor layer.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a device for setting a copying magnification in an electrophotographic copying apparatus. The device comprises means for manually inputting a numerical value, a plurality of memory means, selection key means for selecting one from the plurality of memory means and control means for memorizing a numerical value input by the numerical value input means in said one of memory means selected by the selection key means, so that the copying apparatus operates to set a copying magnification by a numerical value memorized in said one of memory means.
Abstract: A development station for an eletrostatographic apparatus has an elongate sump for a two-component developer material. A feed screw drives developer material along a tube and through openings in the tube into the sump. A ribbon blender coaxially positioned wtih respect to the tube mixes the developer material, delivers it to a developer applicator for transfer to an electrostatic image, and returns the remaining developer material to the other end of the sump for mixture with fresh toner particles.
Abstract: A cleaning device adapted to be detachably mounted on an electrostatic printing apparatus etc. for removing by means of a cleaning blade etc. extra toner left on a photosensitive member of the printing apparatus for storage in a toner recovery tank is disclosed, in which the cleaning blade etc. is moved to seal an opening of the toner recovery tank when the cleaning device is detached from the photosensitive member.
Abstract: A fixing roller of the present invention comprising at least an electrically conductive core member and a PFA dispersion layer formed from a polytetrafluoro ethylene perfluoro alkoxy ethylene co-polymer (PFA resin) with carbon black or like conductive material dispersed therein by means of a dispersing agent. A roller of this construction effectively prevents triboelectrically-induced offset caused by the electrostatic attraction of the toner by a surface charge on the outer peripheral surface of the roller. Since the release properties of said roller are superior, offset caused by thermal adhesion of the toner to the roller is also effectively prevented.
Abstract: One or each of a plurality of developing units of a magnetic brush type developing device includes a shield plate which is angularly movable in a space between a cylindrical sleeve, which constitutes a developing roller, and a magnetic body so as to shield a part of magnetic fields which are developed by the magnetic body. The shield plate moves in a reciprocal motion only between a first position corresponding to that where the sleeve scoops a developer and a second position where the developer is separated and not to a position where a main pole magnet for development of the magnetic body is disposed, so that a magnetic field developed by the main pole magnet is not shielded. A member for supporting the shield plate is interposed between the magnetic body and the shield plate.
Abstract: An image-generating device for an electrophotographic copying machine; is provided with a white-color reflection plate at a specific position on a component part supporting the light source that is used for illuminating the original document in order to prevent charge from being generated at the position where the separation belt comes into contact with the photoreceptor, while the device sufficiently cancels charge by effectively applying a tapered tip part of the white-color reflection plate without causing a black streak to be generated.
Abstract: An automatic image-density control system for photo-copying the page-to-page content of an open book, in which optimum values (of exposure or development bias) needed for precisely copying the page-to-page content are initially established by performing either continuous pre-scanning of both pages of an open book or pre-scanning of the second page after completing photo-copying of the first page, and then, based on the optimum values thus established in conjunction with the first page content, photo-copying operation for the first page content is executed, and then, based on the optimum values established for the second-page content, photo-copying operation is sequentially executed for the second-page content.

Abstract: A heat fixing unit in an electrophotographic copying apparatus is disclosed. The heat fixing unit comprises a heat fixing roller with a heater, a pressure roller with a plurality of fibers, and driven ring components disposed on the ends of the pressure roller for adjusting the contact amount between the heat fixing roller and the pressure roller. The heat fixing unit offers a less warming up time and a better paper delivery performance, and requires less material cost.The heat fixing unit in an electrophotographic copying apparatus may employ a fixed type or a rotary type curing unit for raising the plurality of fibers.

Abstract: Substantial amounts of non-magnetic (zinc stearate) particles are removed from a supply of single component magnetic toner descending from a toner hopper before the toner reaches the image drum of an ion deposition printer. Such separation is accomplished by providing an unwanted particle chamber extending along substantially the entire width of the toner unit housing adjacent and generally below the toner hopper outlet. A blower is effective through an air manifold assembly mounted on the toner unit housing to draw the unwanted particles from such chamber.

Abstract: A developing apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable development sleeve which carries a non-magnetic one-constituent toner on a surface thereof. When the development sleeve rotates, the toner thereon is transferred to an electrostatic latent image, an elastic blade being urged against the surface of the development sleeve, to ensure that the layer of toner thereon is of uniform thickness. The interior of the development sleeve has a ribbed structure which provides additional structural rigidity.
Abstract: In a developing apparatus for developing an electrostatic-latent image by applying a charged developer to the electrostatic-latent image formed on a surface of an image carrier, a housing which stores the developer has a developing roller for feeding the developer therefrom to a developing position. Abstract: A reproduction apparatus has a flexible photoconductor that is moved along an endless path and past a development station for developing latent images on one surface of the photoconductor. A back-up roller is adjacent the other surface of the photoconductor. A mechanism urges the roller against the photoconductor to move it toward the station in response to insertion of the station into the reproduction apparatus. The mechanism has arms alongside the path of the photoconductor that are engageable with stops on the station to precisely locate the roller, and thus the photoconductor, relative to the station.
