  • Patent number: 7499439
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling communications between a base station and a mobile device. The method comprises transmitting a pilot signal having at least one transmitted characteristic over a channel. A data rate control signal is received, indicating a variation between the transmitted characteristic and a corresponding actual characteristic of the pilot signal received at a remote location. The data rate control signal is modified based on a coefficient related to the bandwidth of the channel, and a transmission rate is determined based on the modified data rate control signal.

  • Patent number: 7486935
Abstract: A transmission power control system includes a control and a controlled station. In the control station, an SIR (Signal-to-interference Ratio) estimator calculates two different kinds of estimated SIRs having a long and a short mean processing time, respectively. A subtractor subtracts a target SIR from the estimated SIR with the long mean processing time while an error decider compares the resulting difference with a threshold to thereby output a result of decision. A comparison value updater updates, based on the result of decision, a comparison SIR held in a comparison value holder. Another subtractor subtracts the comparison SIR from the estimated SIR with the short mean processing time. A control information converter generates power control information in accordance with the output of the another subtractor. The controlled station selectively increases or decreases transmission power in accordance with the power control information received from the control station.

  • Patent number: 7424292
Abstract: Described are the concept, processes, and methods to combine an assortment of individually available and executable wireless mobile communication services for the purpose of achieving a desired objective(s). The activity of combining these individual services can be performed by a wireless communication user/subscriber, or a wireless communication service provider, or a wireless communication equipment supplier, or a wireless communication equipment manufacturer, etc. Once combined, these individual services represent an executable sequence that can be appropriately stored in a memory for future invocations by a user/subscriber. That is, a single invocation of the built service combination will execute the sequence of services whenever desired by a user/subscriber.

  • Patent number: 7353038
Abstract: A method and apparatus for indicating an expected level of quality in a private Push To Talk (PTT) network are disclosed. The method and apparatus receive at least one of an affiliation message and a talkgroup call request for a first subscriber unit of the private PTT network wherein a talkgroup is associated with at least one of the private PTT network, another PTT network, and a public network. The method and system determine an expected level of quality for the talkgroup and send the determined expected level of quality to the subscriber unit.

  • Patent number: 7340243
Abstract: Each IC card 1 notifies a server 3 of the ID of the IC card and the connection information of a terminal device to which the IC card is connected. The server 3 stores the ID and the connection information in a database 4 while associating the ID and the connection information with each other. When an IC card 1 communicates with another IC card, the IC card 1 requests the connection information concerning the destination IC card from the server 3 while specifying the ID of this IC card. The server 3 searches the database 4 for the connection information corresponding to the ID specified by the request, and notifies the requesting IC card 1 of the acquired connection information. This enables communications between IC cards even if the terminal device to which a destination IC card is connected has been changed in the past.

  • Patent number: 7333816
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system 10 and method for identifying the position of cellular telephones 12 in a geographical area served by a mobile telephony network 14. The system 10 comprises a mobile location center 15 capable of analyzing information about the electromagnetic (RF) field transmitted by cellular telephones 12 with reference information including both RF information and probabilistic information associated with the morphology of the geographical area. The method involves assigning different weights to the location of cellular telephones 12 as a function of probabilistic reference information, and thus makes it possible to use statistical methods for resolving situations of ambiguity in locating cellular telephones which would otherwise be resolved in purely random fashion.

  • Patent number: 7299038
Abstract: The mobile ad hoc network includes a plurality of wireless mobile nodes and a plurality of wireless communication links connecting the nodes together. A method for managing and controlling the discovery and maintenance of routes in the network includes predicting future-needed routes or the need for future communications in the network using fuzzy logic. Partial and complete routes are discovered along predicted future-needed routes based upon the predicted need for routes. Route tables are built and updated at each mobile node with a route discovery process to store the partial and complete routes in the network.

  • Patent number: 7292822
Abstract: An IDT produces a SAW when excited by a single electrical pulse and can be fabricated to embody a code, which code provides for a passive autocorrelation of a SAW input to the IDT and thereby lends itself to further application as a signal generator in a communication device. However, internal dimensions of IDTs are inversely proportional to operating frequency, such that high frequency IDTs present significant manufacturing difficulties. Fabrication of IDTs for high frequency applications is simplified by exploiting a harmonic frequency SAW generated by IDTs. An IDT may therefore be designed according to fundamental frequency internal dimension criteria but can operate at a multiple of the fundamental frequency, thereby providing much higher frequency operation than conventional SAW systems. Operation of a second harmonic SAW system at 2.4 GHz based on a fundamental frequency of 1.2 GHz is contemplated.

  • Patent number: 7039438
Abstract: A multi-mode radio communications device 100 provides simultaneous timebase monitoring for GSM/TDMA/EDGE using Accumulator Type ‘Layer 1’ timers (150) to avoid the need for one or more secondary reference phase lock loops (PLLs). The use of such timers allows achievement by only digital means of GSM and TDMA synchronization requirements without using additional dedicated reference PLLs, as well as saving multiple integrated circuit (IC) pins and several external components. Also, through the use of such timers, no real time software adjustment is required.
