Abstract: A method of estimating formation parameters in a directional drilling process by acquiring electromagnetic logging while drilling (LWD) measurements over a non-uniform forward modeling grid and inverting, using a pixel-based inversion method, the LWD measurements over a uniform inversion grid. The inversion algorithm may be applied using a sliding window scheme that allows the formation parameters to be estimated independently and in parallel across a plurality of overlapping windows which span the entirety of the inversion grid.

  • Patent number: 10409925
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for tuning photovoltaic power generation plant forecasting is provided. Global horizontal irradiance (GHI), ambient temperature and wind speed for a photovoltaic power generation plant over a forecast period are obtained. Simulated plane-of-array (POA) irradiance is generated from the GHI and the plant's photovoltaic array configuration as a series of simulated observations. Inaccuracies in GHI conversion are identified and the simulated POA irradiance at each simulated observation is corrected as a function of the conversion inaccuracies. Simulated module temperature is generated based on the simulated POA irradiance, ambient temperature and wind speed. Simulated power generation over the forecast period is generated based on the simulated POA irradiance, simulated module temperature and the plant's specifications and status.

  • Patent number: 10403056
Abstract: Systems and methods for managing components of physical systems, including decomposing raw time series by extracting an aging trend and a fluctuation term from the time series using an objective function of an optimization problem, the objective function minimizing reconstruction error and ensuring flatness of the fluctuation term over time. The optimization problem is transformed into a Quadratic Programming (QP) formulation including a monotonicity constraint and a non-negativity constraint, the constraints being merged together to reduce computational costs. An aging score and a confidence score are generated for the extracted aging trend to determine a severeness of aging for one or more components of the physical system, and the aging score and confidence score are fused to provide a fused ranking for the extracted aging trend for predicting future failures of the components.

  • Patent number: 10353097
Abstract: Method and system for 3-D imaging of subterranean geologic structures based on seismic data interpretations involves correcting mis-ties that arise as a result of orthogonal polylines failing to intersect due to inconsistencies in seismic interpretations. In some embodiments, the mis-ties may be corrected by adding a data point from one polyline at or near the mis-tie to the other polyline, and vice versa for the other polyline. The two data points are then adjusted so they coincide or merge. The merged data point is then used as intersection points for the polylines and associated with one another such that a change made to one intersection point is automatically made to the other intersection point. In some embodiments, one or more neighboring data points on each polyline are adjusted to smooth out the polyline at the point of the corrected mis-tie.

  • Patent number: 10352741
Abstract: Method and apparatus capable of accurately measuring a flow rate using Gaussian quadrature even under a small number of measurement points are provided. An average for the y-coordinate of values of normal-directional component with respect to the cross-section represented by vz0(x, y) among an estimated flow velocities in a flow passage cross-section is used as Vz0(x), and a weighting function of Gaussian quadrature is set to Vz0(x)L(x), where L(x)=ymax(x)?ymin(x). Further, an average for y of values of normal-directional component with respect to the cross-section of an actual flow velocity represented by vz(x, y) is used as Vz(x), and an integrand is set to Vz(x)/Vz0(x). These values are used to determine an approximate value of a flow rate according to Gaussian quadrature. In addition, a method of virtually offsetting zero-point of the flow velocity distribution to apparently avoid a problem such as reverse flow is provided.

  • Patent number: 10302811
Abstract: A data reduction method for transmission of a borehole image to the surface of the earth using restricted band widths of LWD telemetry systems. The data reduction method is based on the measurement physics rather than mathematical compression algorithms. Measured data from a sensor are fitted, within the logging tool, to a response function relating sensor response to a parameter of interest. The coefficients of the fitted response function are scaled and then telemetered to the surface. The measured data are reconstructed at the surface by combining the telemetered coefficients with the response function. A borehole image is formed by combining reconstructed reduced data. Parameters of dipping beds intersecting the borehole can be determined from the coefficients.
